Manufacturer Description
Delivers the absolute highest contrast views of many diffuse and planetary nebula. For many objects, the Baader O-III reveals a level of intricate detail that rivals the best deep sky photographs. Our favorite filter for the majority of nebula, especially The Veil, Lagoon (M8), Swan (M17), Ring (M57) and Dumbell (M27). With a large scope, you can even view the famous 'Pillars of Creation' in M16 (Eagle).
The Baader O-III perfectly isolates the two doubly ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm), through a very sharp and narrow bandpass (10 nm wide). Unlike other O-III filters, the Baader O-III completely blocks longer and shorter wavelengths (ever wonder why some O-III filters appear red, instead of the correct 500 nm Teal color?). The result is the highest contrast achievable in an O-III filter.
The O-III benefits from the precision fine optically polished flat substrate, and advanced DWDM plasma assisted coatings. As a result, the Baader O-III will not degrade image sharpness or impart double images. To prevent deterioration from cleaning or exposure to moisture, some other filters even resort to sandwiching their delicate coatings between two layers of filter glass, resulting in potential blurred or double images. Contrary to myth, nebula filters are often useful at high magnifications, where image quality counts. Baader O-III filters can take high magnifications, and stars retain their pinpoint sharpness, even if the filter is used far ahead of the image plane (ie, for imaging use, or ahead of a star diagonal or binoviewer). Combine with our UV/IR filter for the ultimate in O-III deep sky imaging.

Sep 24, 2012Baader OIII filter is a hit
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Lightweight,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I looked into this filter shortly after seeing it in a friend's scope. The Veil looked awesome and that alone was worth the price. When I received it, it was in great condition and gave wonderfully contrasty views of the Veil, Lagoon, Swan and Crescent nebulae.

Jun 4, 20122" Baader Planetarium Narrowband OIII 8.5nm filter
Pros:Threads great onto all accessories. High quality. No fitment issues.
Cons:none
Comments:I bought the 2" Baader Planetarium Narrowband OIII 8.5nm filter for astrophotography with my DSLR and have never been happier! It threads great on all my imaging accessories such as filter wheels and other 2" accessories. The quality is superb. The results are fantastic. It specifically targets certain nebula and only allows a tight band of light to pass through. I chose this item versus other narrowband filters because it is somewhat affordable yet maintains a high quality image.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesApr 30, 2012Great Filter
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Very nice filter for bringing out some great detail and veiws of nebulas, the orion nebula looks really great threw this filter it brings out much more contrast.

Oct 28, 2011Great filter!!
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight,Durable,Nice threads,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This filter made it possible for me to see those wonderful planetary nebula. It's easy to thread onto the bottom of my 2" eyepieces and barlow lens. Cleaning this filter is so simple, and I don't have to be afraid of hurting the coatings.

Jun 8, 2011Excellent Nebula Filter
Pros:Accurate,Quality Lenses,Great picture quality
Cons:None
Comments:Remarkably, this is a great filter for the moon at full moon, the Orion Nebula (M42) is amazing from a dark sight, you can see substantially more of it!

Nov 10, 2009Very good product at a fair price
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:This filter is perfect to watch OIII emission nebulae that are impossible to see without filter. Try it with a 8" telescope and the veil nebulae and you will get astonished.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Also, I've used it for astrography coupled with the Baader UV/IR cut. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 7, 2009Excellent filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:This filter is used on telescopes to filter out certain wavelengths of light that make it more difficult to see certain nebulae.

Aug 5, 2009Love this OIII
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This Oxygen III ( OIII, or "Oh-three") filter is a very narrow bandwidth that allows only the pair of emission lines of Oxygen to get to the eye, and for MANY planetary and diffuse emission nebulae, the boost in visibility helps. OIII filters are not recommended for use on things like reflection nebulae, star clusters, or galaxies, since the bandwidth of the OIII filter is so narrow, it may hurt some nebulae with significant H-beta emission somewhat, like the nebulae around Gamma Cygni or the Horsehead. Differences between OIII filter and the UHC are mainly in nebula visibility and contrast. Many nebulae show a slightly larger area of nebulosity in the UHC filter, but in the OIII filter, they will often have more CONTRAST and dark detail. Great for viewing: ---Veil (NGC6960, 6992, 6995) to see the faint filaments or supernova remnant in Cygnus as well as Crescent Nebula NGC6888 are a real showpiece; plus SNR IC443 in Gemini; both Abell12 planetary and Jones1 in Pegasus ...it is a must...invisible without them.--- North American Nebulae, HII regions in M33, (M42 and M8, weak red color in parts)--Super Nova Remanents (SNR) with the "exception" being the Crab because view not from excited gas, but from electrons.---M27 planetary You will love this filter, W.D. / U.S. Air Force

May 30, 2009Fantastic views
Pros:Great Contrast
Cons: Comments:The Baader O-III filter I bought was a great buy. I am thoroughly pleased with the views I get. The Orion Nebula (M42) is simply breathtaking in my 10-inch Dob at low to medium powers and the Baader O-III Filter. With averted vision I can see both light grean and red colors with great detail using averted vision under dark skies with good seeing conditions. Another fastastic view was the West and East Veil Nebula using a 32mm eyepiece with the O-III filter. The filter excels with this old supernova, bringing a wonderful contrast of the filaments and structure. I am very pleased with the quality of this filter.

May 26, 2009Good visual filter
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons:Difficult to Use
Comments:It's a good filter that improves the observing of the planetary nebula. The main handicap comes from the difficulty of thread it in the eyepieces.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 1, 2008Wonderful filter.
Pros:Great views, good fit to eyepieces.
Cons:None that I can see.
Comments:I ordered my Baader OIII filter through Agena Astro. The filter I ordered was the 1.25" size. I have heard of people having problems threading this filter onto their eyepieces but not with me. I put it on my Hyperions, Panoptics, and Agena eyepieces with no problems whatsoever. The result of this filter is extreme contrast between the black background of space and the delicate photons of OIII light needed for near-photographic views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell and Orion nebulae, among other objects. It actually makes the nebula appear brighter and gives structure of the nebulae tremendous detail.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
See for yourself -- it's truly amazing what the OIII filter allows you to see!stargazertony New Member
