Well Built
Pros: Cons: Comments:This was a bit larger and heavier than I expected but it is very high quality. I use it to lock my guide scope to Losmandy rail. Expected I would need two but since this is larger than I was expecting I ended up using one. The holes were drilled perfectly for the Orion 240mm guide scope.

Jun 4, 2018Extremely Satisfied
Pros: Cons: Comments:Received item and it has performed as advertised. One issue I had was that the 1/4x20 hole dimensions on website were incorrect. Overall very happy with purchase.

Jan 30, 2018FABULOUS
Pros: Cons: Comments:Great everything! Superb machining, finish, function, price. Plenty of thru and threaded standard English to adapt to any application. I just finished incorporating into a custom trimmable mount, to use a Vixen VMC200L 8-inch scope as a... FINDER for my 36-inch observatory telescope!

I'll use this with my Carton Supernova mount that only comes with a mount plate so that I can use all my other scopes with it.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 27, 2017Versatile Saddle
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is an excellent addition to any set up. I attached it to the top of my refractor where it accepts either a finder, a guide scope, or a camera. It is better quality than the saddle on my alt/az mount and I wish I could switch them out. Don't hesitate to purchase this item, it is high quality.

fine. Then I ordered another one for my Alt Alz mount for my 3 inch refractor. Just right for telescopes
with a Vixen dovetail mounting rail.
It is just what someone would need for telescopes with mounting rails on them. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 25, 2016Works great on my mount
Pros:Compact,Lightweight,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:The GSO (FF561 ) dovetail mount adapter worked great on my equatorial mount for my 4 inch refractor. I bought two and will put the other one on another mount soon. Agena AstroProducts shipped it fast.

Aug 18, 2015Terrific Dovetail Mount for Dovetail Bar
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:A very well made and completely adaptable piece of equipment. I have an older Meade tripod. I mounted 2 of these great dovetail mounts in tandem, so the tripod can now hold any small to medium size telescope. I drilled 2 holes on each end of the tripod elongated swivel mount (where the telescope used to rest upon). Then I shimmed the difference in height from the swivel mount to the new dovetail mount with washers (the old mount was not straight across, it had about 1/2 inch drop at both ends (where the rings could be placed). Everything was then at an equal and level height. I mounted the new dovetail mounts with 2 bolts on each mount using washers, lock washers, and then tightened them down. Works and looks like it came with the tripod!! A great solution to update an older tripod, or to replace a mount.

Jan 30, 2015Excellent Product
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:I replaced a generic "plate" on a Meade LXD 500 mount with this dovetail mount. It went on with no modifications. I guess there is some standardization of hole spacing on telescope mounts. Now the Meade can be used with 3 of my telescopes with no difficulty. Really worth it.

Sep 7, 2014Useful Tool
Pros:Lightweight,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This is a handy adaptor that can be attached to a tripod head or to a telescope accessory rail to permit the mounting of instruments fitted with a Vixen style dovetail mounting bar. It is well constructed, operates smoothly and includes two mount locking screws for a secure fit. There are multiple mounting holse in the base, some tapped for 1/4"-20 threades that make attching this adaptor easy to acomplish. I would limit the payload of any instruments attached to this adaptor to 15 pounds or less. I have two of them.

May 30, 2014Almost a "Work of Art"
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Easy to Use,Accurate,Lightweight
Cons:None
Comments:I needed to modify an older Mizar mount to accept a Vixen-style rail. Knowing GSO's reputation for quality components, I didn't hesitate to order this dovetail mount. When it came, it was so well designed and manufactured that I just wanted to sit and look at it. It was on my desk the day after it arrived and my astronomy buddy came by and was also impressed.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The CNC machining is up to GSO's usual high-standards. The impressively large, knurled thumb screw and locking screw leave no doubt that my fairly heavy Newtonian scope will be firmly installed on the mount.
As a retired engineer, I was also impressed with the combinations of countersunk mounting holes that are part of the design.
One cannot go wrong with this product. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Mar 7, 2014Quality has to be seen to be believed.
Pros:Versatile,Beautifully Machined,Accurate,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I have a thirty year old Mizar Eq mount that is built like a tank. The equally old 6" Newtonian's mirrors finally subcumbed to the atmosphere and began to rapidly deteriorate. I found a new 6" OTA for sale on eBay and bought it for a literal songm still in the original crate. It came with new rings on a Vixen style mounting bar, but my old mount didn't have the base that would accommodate it.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Naturally, the first place I looked was to AgenaAstro for a solution. This thing is a beauty. The workmanship are beyond belief. It sat on my desk for a couple of days until I could get it ready to meet the mount, and I had two people (who didn't even know what it was) marvel at the precision with which it was CNC machined.
Thee are a variety of mounting combinations designed in the base. However, I had to do a bit of lapping work to get it ready for the very old mount. It appears to be made of a fairly soft variety of steel and is easy to work with, yet solid as a rock.
The main knurled mounting knob is a nice size, much larger in diameter than on some bases one sees attached to today's Eq mounts. Likewise, the locking knob is of sufficient size to give the user a feeling of safety when installing the dovetail.
I highly recommend this product! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Feb 7, 2014HIGH QUALITY MOUNT!!
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:I needed a quality Vixen style dovetail mount and this GSO mount is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! It's easy to mount (there are a combination of mounting configuration holes that can be used) and it's relatively compact. But don't be fooled by its light weight and compact size!! This mount is QUALITY MACHINED and VERY STURDY. Oversized tightening knob makes it a dream to snug down your OTAs SECURELY. An OUTSTANDING item! It doesn't hurt that Agena is THE BEST astronomy site on the web...GREAT PEOPLE!!!!

Dec 8, 2013Rock Solid Photo Tripod Complement
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight,Compact,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I was looking for an alternative to the 1/4 x 20 threaded bolt that is the standard on even expensive photo tripods, something that would provide a more solid, stable, and safer platform for my 20x80 astronomy binoculars, Stellarvue-80ED refractor, and several smaller telescopes that I use often in a grab and go capacity. I wanted to end up with a Vixen-style dovetail platform that would allow me to quickly switch out one instrument for another in the dark, and obviate the need to use the 1/4 x 20 threaded connector every time I wanted to move from the binocs to the SV-80 to, say, a 90mm refractor or a long tube 70mm.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I emailed Agena with a description of what I wanted; they got back to me very quickly and included the Agena link to this compact little "hockey puck" GSO dovetail mount. It connects to the tripod mount via a 1/4 x 20 on the underside and provides a smooth, impeccably-machined dovetail slot on the top side while adding very little weight. I've used this set up a half dozen times, and it works flawlessly. SO much better than the 1/4 x 20 bolt. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 13, 2012GSO Dovetail mount - a good unit
Pros:Accurate,Easy to Use,Lightweight,Strong Construction,Compact
Cons: Comments:I bought this to convert an old-style Orion AstroView mount from tube rings to dovetail. I drilled and tapped into a small aluminum bar, attached the GSO dovetail mount and bolted this on where the rings used to go. Now I have a good medium-duty grab&go mount with the ease of dovetail mounting. It is a good unit.

Aug 23, 2010Very Nice Product
Pros:Strong Construction,Beautiful fit and finish
Cons: Comments:I ordered this Dovetail Adapter to perform an upgrade on an AZ3 type alt/az mount that I have. The reason I did so was to make the mount more user friendly and versatile in its implementation. You could say that this is an ATM project and to some degree it is as I am creating something that is unique. I also plan on purchasing another to use on a custom one of kind alt/az mount that I built from the ground up. GSO products have always served me well and they do possess a very distinct bang for your buck feature. This dovetail adapter is very well designed, the machining, fit and finish rival similar items costing many times more. The beauty of these also lies in the fact that they can be used singly for smaller scopes or in tandem for bigger setups and they also can be mounted vertically or horizontally while still performing well.

Jan 20, 2010Works great with Takahashi Teegul mount!
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons: Comments:$55 cheaper than the Tak version of this dovetail adapter and fit on my Lapides Modified Teegul mount like a glove! Black color matches well and holds scope securely. What more could you want?
