Astronomer Brian Cox Witnesses the 2009 Varanasi Total Solar Eclipse

In this brief but dramatic video, astronomer Brian Cox shows what it's like to experience a total solar eclipse. Cox travelled to Varanasi, India, to witness the eclipse of July 22, 2009 as part of the Wonders of the Solar System series produced by the BBC.

No camera can reproduce the color and dynamic range you experience actually seeing an eclipse for yourself, but this video comes close. At totality, Cox himself is nearly overwhelmed as he says of this event, "That's the solar system coming down and grabbing you by the throat."
