Taking full advantage of a series of clear nights, I couldn't resist some wide-field shots of the sky. Seeing was reasonably good, if not perfect, a few nights after full moon. The temperature was a little cool, but pleasant. Here are the fruits of my labor:

    Orion, 1 second exposure, f/5.6, ISO 1600:

    ASTRONOMY - ORION 4-04-18 SM.jpg

    Auriga, 2 second exposure, f/5.6, ISO 1600:

    ASTRONOMY - AURIGA 4-04-18 SM.jpg

Canis Major, 2 second exposure, f/5.6, ISO 1600:

    ASTRONOMY - CANIS MAJOR 4-04-18 SM.jpg

    Leo, 5 second exposure, f/5.6, ISO 1600:

    ASTRONOMY - LEO 4-04-18 SM.jpg

The Great Bear, 5 second exposure, f/5.6, ISO 800:

    ASTRONOMY - GREAT BEAR 4-04-18 SM.jpg

    Clear skies to all!

    Reggie :)

Hi Reggie, I much like the idea, but with all this white around the images and in a brightly lit room (where I am now) the images look mostly black. I think they need a bit of exaggeration to let the stars shine.

I took the last image, copied it to several layers and gave them all the blend mode "linear dodge (add)". Each time I tried to leave the darkest pixels unaffected. I also blurred the layers to varying degrees.

The signature became severely overcooked, and the background turned splotchy in spite of my attempts to protect it, but now I can see the stars with ease.

I think you have good images to work with, and if you could pull out the stars from the dark background they would become much more impressive visually. Though you should maybe blur them a bit less and definitely protect the background better than I did!

You can get apps. to turn the forum into any colour you want. That's one good thing about the DLM - dark screen.

Look for the app. to do this with your particular browser. I have it on both my Firefox and my Pale Moon. And you could ask George to make a "change of theme" a permanent option in the settings here. You have my permission to sign my name to it as well.

Poor George! He does so much for us, and rarely do people notice!

Wow! Interesting processing! The stars really jump out against the white theme. On SGL, a.k.a DLM, the original images stand out much better. I really need to spend more time processing. I just point and shoot mostly and then, off to observing. Thanks for taking the time to process this!

@Orion25 great set of pictures again, you put a lot of efforts producing stuff out of the sky very honorable.

It's fantastic how the great nebula is easy to see, it's there in your orion picture. You also have the bunch of bright stars inside Auriga, there must be some kind of name for them (which i don't know). I am talking about the batch of stars 16, 18, 19, 14 these very bright stars close to the "flaming star nebula", a nebula I can't see visually.

But I know this collection of stars is a very nice one to look at low power. Another rich place I like to stop by when I can.

Thanks for these pictures and all these efforts @Orion25

You're very welcome, Neb. It's lots of fun trying to capture what I see in the sky (and some things that I can't)! I'll be stopping by the Den, soon, good friend!:)

Your style of capturing a constellation is truly a 'minimalist' approach - and one that works beautifully! I know better than to ask how or what brought you to do it like you have - that 'Muse' has a way to scamper away at the hint of a query! :p

Tricky lil' fellahs, them 'Muse' critters..... :p
