Mak when you are viewing with the prism diagonal are you using a variable polarizer?
If so try finding a linear polarizer, the prism already acts as a polarizer and a linear will give you the same effect with better light transmission.

Hoya makes a good one that is not very expensive.

I normally view the Moon (or Venus) with a single plane polarised filter. I have a collection (Baader, Bresser, GSO) lol. I only usually stack them on a very bright Venus. Thanks for the tip that the diagonal acts as a polariser though.

My computer died a gruesome death. I'm back on a new machine and trying to get it running to my standards. So bear with me. Dell Computer got this up to me in an F35 Jet-Fighter!

I had a feeling you had computer problems. So, did you go Mac, Linux or Android?

Heya Gabby? Do you know who carry's Hoya filters these days? I haven't seen these around for a long time. I have quite a few older one's - they remain a perennial favorite of mine.

Read my thread. General Chat. And I intend to kill this Windoze 10 in due course. Right now I'm busy - as of 2 hours ago - to alter it enough so I don't rip out all my hair!

Well, with 10 you shouldn't have many compatibility problems, unlike Linux ...

I think it's incompatible with most people. Better than 8 though, I hear.

I'll let you know after I'm through fine-tuning the Classic Shell I'm tinkering with now. 8.1 vanished with that, and was alright after that. If I had to run it as 8.1 visually - I'd have turned that computer into a youtube film of the 'puter being hit by the 5:41pm Freight Train to Montreal!

Windows Vista, Win8, 8.1 and 10 should be wiped from the collective conscious of humanity...

This thread has its origins on SGL by Ray as his first thread about his 102mm Meade refractor was closed down there due to a moderator tantrum. So Ray opened a new thread especially for smaller apertures, which was also closed down due to a moderator tantrum. So he moved it here. Two years and two hundred pages later it is still going.

I think it's a great idea to have this never ending thread, it's an important gathering area. Otherwise people would be lost, it's like a citadel dominating a city. :D

That's a good question you have there.
