    Tomorrow China is launching a lander and rover destine for the far side of the moon.
    One of the things it will be doing is a gardening experiment with potato and cress.
    It will be communicating with Earth via Queqiao that was launched in May.

    For a moment this morning my brainwashing kicked in and I thought hey wait a minute they are trying to grow plants on the far side of the moon. They wont get any sunlight. :confused:

    The far side or the moon,aka the dark side of the Moon gets as much sunlight as the near side. I don't know where the dark side of the Moon comes from as a name as it's not dark!we never see it from Earth due to tidal locking I believe.its much rougher than the near side and very few seas.the Moscow sea being the main one.why the surface of the far side is so different from the near side is strange?

    I know that there is no dark side of the moon but I grew up hearing that. That is why I said about the brainwashing kicking in. Almost everything I learned or was taught when I was younger has turned out to be wrong or a lie. Like such things as people only get two sets of teeth, people only have one brain, and don't even get me started on the examples that were given for conundrums.
    I think Pink Floyd has to shoulder some of the blame for perpetuating the dark side of the moon myth.
    I think that the earth side of the moon being smoother because of its lava seas is due to the impacts on the far side driving the lava out the opposite side.

    It's orbiting 15 km above the lunar surface and may land early January.

    Yup, landed yesterday, already sent back pics, and the rover has rolled down the ramp. So far, so good.

    It is the copy of the successful Chang'e-3 mission, which delivered the lunar rover Yuyta to the moon in December 2013. The Lunokhod also has four instruments: a panoramic camera (PCAM), Lunar Penetrating Radar (LPR), a visible and near infrared spectrometer (VNIS), and an Advanced Small Analyzer for Neutrals (ASAN).
