The weather in Miami just isn't cooperating. Although transparency is good, the seeing is horrible due to the high moisture in the atmosphere. Last night I set up the 6" Mak. I couldn't get frame rates to even approach 30/second, and Mars looked like a shimmering blob on the laptop screen. With lots of effort and experimenting with different parameters I was able to get a decent image.

If I have the opportunity I'm going to try imaging in IR and see what I come up with.

That's not a bad image at all, Ed, especially considering the conditions. "Seeing" is everything when it comes to the planets, lol. I can't wait to see your IR images.

    Regards,
    Reggie :)

That's a pretty decent image though Ed. I'm in the same boat. Basically one that's been torpedoed by the U-Boat of bad seeing conditions. September and October are damp where I live (the English Midlands). November and December are generally better as it is colder but much drier (unless it snows). January and February are the same, with the latter month being milder the past few years (hurrah for global warming). Not only that but the overall humidity brings the dew out in September and October particularly. Although, having said that, I've had some pretty decent views of Mars this opposition year. I got 200x on Mars with a 102mm achromat a couple of nights ago.

My posts don't appear when I hit POST REPLY.

You guessed it, it's another test.

ADDED: OK, this time it did post, only not right after I hit POST REPLY. I logged out, logged back in, and deleted the draft. Lo and behold, my reply appeared! Maybe there's hope for AC, as I'm not thrilled with the 'other' on line forum.

    Yeah, everything seems fine.

Just to prove it I'll upload some random Massenet, a random screenshot of my laptop, and a random picture of my Altair 60EDF.
