    Sunday I posted a lunar image taken with my ASI290MC planetary cam and Canon 55-250mm kit lens @ 50mm which came out decent. At the end of that post I noted that I was going to try a lunar image using the 10" Dob. Well, here it is:

    This image is much sharper and better defined compared to the one I took the day before. Imaging with a big Dob has its quirks and limitations, but for lunar disks the end results are worth the effort.

    EQUIPMENT:
    Telescope/Lens - 250mm Skywatcher Dob @ prime focus detents
    Imaging Camera - Canon T3i
    Mount - manual Dobsonian
    Filters - Baader Neodymium

    ACQUISITION:
    Canon MOV 59sec single pass drift
    Auto ISO

    PROCESSING:

    PIPP version: v2.5.9
    Total input frames: 1797
    Frames discarded by quality: 0

    Quality Algorithm: Unknown
    Output Frame Type: Monochrome

    AutoStakkert 3 for 7% of frames
    Must process first in PIPP to output AVI file

    RigiStax 6 for image Gamma and Wavelets

    NOTES:
    Dob mount not good because of image rotation
    Processing long videos causes rotation distortions
    PIA to process MOV in PIPP to stack in AS!3

    Great detail with the Dob, Ed. I think this is the better of the two images.

    I tried processing four joined videos for a total of 16,000 frames and found out first hand about Dob image rotation - YUUUCK!!! The single pass, 59 second video did not require me to move the scope, so no field rotation. However, I would like to take longer videos of the moon and planets, seeing the potential this Dob has. I'm currently looking at equatorial platforms as well as looking into making one.

    It's well into the 'monsoon' season here in Sunny South Florida and I haven't been able to do anything astro related. :(

    Just wanted to post something to let y'all know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.
