Orion 50mm right-angle finder
Pros:Bright, clear, wide-angled field; sharp crosshairs; easy alignment
Cons:Non-illuminated crosshairs; crosshairs may need aligning
Comments:I received my copy of this finder mounted to an Orion Intelliscope. I've used 50mm finders in the past and despite the trend to reflex finders I feel there is still a place for an optical finder, at least for views of extended objects.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The view through this finder is sharp, bright and clear as one would expect. The field of view is sufficient for its intended application. Focus is with the objective, new to me, and I found it a little clumsy but once set you never have to touch it again so I don't mind. The crosshairs are sharp and well defined although on my finder they were aligned diagonally to the field. This was easily corrected by loosening the eyepiece, shimming it with thick paper and re-tightening it. The dovetail mount works well although the base may need to be properly aligned with the main optical tube. The springloaded ring works like a charm for aligning the crosshairs with the main optics, very intuitive, very easy, one screw up-down, one screw left-right, it couldn't be simpler.
I can recommend this finder without reservation.Sort by
