Tele-vue Oracle 3-inch refractor
Pros:Light weight (about seven pounds for the OTA); Versatility; Very high quality.
Cons:Doesn't come with a finder.
Comments:The Oracle is an apochromatic refractor that Tele-Vue sold from the late 1980s to the early 90s. It has a cemented triplet lens and a 2-inch focuser, so it can use 2-inch eyepieces. I found its performance to be far superior to the telescopes that I had owned previously, both in respect to performance and with workmanship. Tele-vue stopped selling these scopes because the triplet objective lens became too expensive to manufacture. Televue is still known for its high-quality refractors, which have certain advantages, such as more modern design, but are also much more expensive.
