    I just received a notice from Doc Clay at the ASO (link below) about Comet Wirtanen 46P and it looked like it may turn out to be like a new Hale-Bopp. Operative Word: 'may.'

    So it bears keeping an eye peeled for any updates from any sources that you know and trust. No Flat Earther's please! :p And please feel free to pass them onto this thread. Doc Clay and his ASO is one that I do. I encourage you to aquaint yourself with this outfit:

    Hello Again!

    The following link will take you to The Sky in the UK. Here you can enter your information and object you wish to find, such as C/46P Wirtanen (or similar) and your location - Latitude & Longitude - and name of where you are on Earth. I used a city name and state in the USA. Whatever. This will get you the map of the objects current location, etc. Link:

    Most likely just hype.
    I never get amped up by this stuff.
    I think the next big one will be a new one.

    Normally I'd ignore it, too. But if Doc Clay gets behind it - it very much bears watching. He's not one to sound the 'clarion call' unless he's got good reason.

    The flat Earthers phoned. They can't see the comet as they've all fallen off the edge.

    I just seen those amazing photos on SpaceWeather.com of 46P.
    Its looking like Saturday night might be clear enough for me.

    A lot of people are seeing it.
    In binoculars, scopes and I have heard a few naked eye.
    Going to try this weekend from my home.

    Looks like I might have a few good viewing nights coming up finally :rolleyes:
    The comet is on the top of my list. Wish I could take a photo of it.

    I have observed it in binoculars and a telescope. Pretty easy to find on the last 2 nights.

    I have seen it with binoculars and telescope recently. Under good skies with averted vision also, unfortunate that it probably will not become bright enough to see naked eye.

    I got my hopes up last night. When the sun set the sky was clear but the clouds moved in right before it got into position. I may never get to see this comet :(

    Just saw it tonight (Thursday night) naked eye from my astroclub's dark site. It practically formed an equilateral triangle with Aldebaran and the Pleiades. Just a tiny little fuzzball, but it was definitely there. I also saw 70 Geminids in one hour, from 10:20 to 11:20, before it got too friggin' cold.
