I caught the waxing crescent partially occulting the Beehive (M44) on Friday night! This is a single exposure, f4.5, 1 second:

It was a challenge imaging the beehive through the powerful glow of the moon!

    Cheers,
    Reggie ;)

Dont you just love a challenge? Good job! We had clouds here, but I would have missed it anyway, not aware of the impending occultation.....

Thanks, squeege. I was waiting patiently all evening for the clouds to part for a "shot" at getting an image. The moon has made some interesting conjunctions over the past week or so, with Aldebaran, Mars and now M44. This kind of quick astrophotography is really fun and exciting!

Lol, that I did! I had to wait patiently for the clouds to break, and once they did, it was mostly clear for the rest of the night. It was fun watching the moon slowly glide past the star cluster as the evening progressed. Now, it's cloudy again. Oh well, I had a great Friday night!

Sounds like a good Friday. I just had an unexpected great Saturday night - Sunday morning (23:00 ~ 04:00 BST). I got a good 150x on the Moon with my ED80, saw M3 at 16.6x, the Ring Nebula and the Double Double at 133x, a ton of other stuff, ending with Jupiter at transit and a rising Saturn. I'm knackered now! lol

I hope the clouds clear for you soon.

You got in some awesome observing there! I'm hoping for a clearer Sunday so I can pull out the reflector and tackle some DSOs.

The BBC Weather app was right for a change . I just had to take advantage of it. Sunday night is looking good at the moment. Good luck with the DSO's.

Impressive shot. I'm surprised that with a one second exposure the brilliance of the moon didn't burn out the image. BTW, you also captured nice earth shine in this image, too.

Thanks, Ed. I had to toy with the exposure to find a good balance between seeing the cluster and taming the moon glow. I may tweak the levels in this image to see what happens.
