Not sure if any of you are aware of this web site run by Steve Tonkin a very accomplished binocular astronomer and writer. His book on binocular astronomy is excellent.

He also writes a monthly column for the Sky at Night magazine.

You can sign up for his free monthly download, which is good for the Northern Hemisphere and his website has some very good advice when considering buying binoculars.

That is indeed a good site, Frank. I've been receiving his monthly newsletters for a while now. Even though I observe from 9degN latitude, I constantly reference them. These are also great targets for fast, wide-field refractors. I've always been smitten with Binocular Astronomy, but lately I can only observe for 30min or so before I get a neck ache o_O. One of these days I'm going to invest in one of those sweet Trico mirrors!

I have a couple of pairs of binoculars, great for those moments when you know as soon as you set up the clouds will roll in but there is a 5 minute window!

They are also a great way of learning the night sky...had some good evenings hunting Messier objects and other fuzzies...
