Here's how to turn an Omegon (Long Perng) Amici diagonal from a perfectly good diagonal into a paperweight in seconds.

Try to unthread the drawtube ...

It takes some doing, then you find out it doesn't actually have a thread, unlike most diagonals.

Luckily, I had another. I didn't attempt to 'unthread' the drawtube this time.

Fortunately the nosepiece has a conventional thread and I can replace this with a straight aluminium one. I feel happier with this in my Baader adapter as there is less chance of it distorting its compression ring. So, be careful about unthreading drawtubes!

Unlikely, and I I wouldn't trust it with a heavy eyepiece!

Well, I've learned that not all drawtubes on diagonals unthread. So that's something lol.

So does it make a good paperweight or what?

My W.O. and my GSO all have threads. Even my cheapie Meade's unthread. What an underhanded POS! Omegon! Never again!

    Thanks' for the 'heads' up.'

It's a Long Perng really. I suppose it's cheaper to produce this way. It took some effort to twist it off, remember I'm partially paralysed in my right hand. It's not a bad paperweight, a bit pricey though.

I suppose it could also serve as a pencil & pen holder...

Only if I take the prism out.

Use a hammer and shake it out into the rubbish-can?

Seems an awful waste of a prism.

How were they attaching the eyepiece holder from factory?
There must be a way to reattach it.

I'm guessing it was brazed or something like that. In its original state it would hold a heavy eyepiece securely, but I wouldn't trust it now even with a repair. It's toast! I've ordered a replacement.
