Last night everything came together. I was up at 11:00pm and the sky was simply gorgeous. I didn't feel tired and decided to image Jupiter with the TV-85. It didn't take me that long to get everything set up and running. After taking three videos I switched to visual and admired the beauty of Jupiter and its moons for a while.

This morning I processed the videos. The first and shortest one turned out to be the best. I tried several different ways, but the simplest processing gave the best results. The image turned out pretty nice, especially considering it was taken with an 85mm refractor.

BTW, if Jupiter doesn't look quite round it is because it spins so fast it's an oblate flattened at the poles. ;)

Shrinkflation? We have all been experiencing that one! Even Ol'e Jove is experiencing shrinkage in the GRS.

Years ago one of the equatorial bands disappeared, only to reappear a year or two later. Like Gabby said, the GRS may just be taking a rest.

Jupiter does have a dynamic atmosphere. The GRS deserves a holiday, lol. What a headline, "Jupiter's GRS: Disappearing Before Our Eyes!"
