    Hi, All!

My name is Scott Burgess and I hail from Winterport, Maine. I've been an active amateur astronomer since the age of 10, more than forty years ago. My primary areas of interest include photoelectric photometry of variable stars, high-resolution planetary imaging, sunspot counting, and classic telescopes. I also enjoy doing astronomy outreach. Collecting vintage telescopes has become a bit of an addiction, and I have owned more than eighty telescopes over the years. My current stable includes just a bit over twenty scopes, only one of which is a modern scope (a very nice Takahashi Mewlon 210 on a Losmandy G11 Gemini II).

I'm very fortunate that astronomy is also a big part of my job, as I teach astronomy at a private college-prep high school in Bangor, Maine and have also taught introductory astronomy at the University of Maine. Over the years I've also served on the staff of the Maynard F. Jordan Observatory at the University of Maine. Last summer we installed a new 20" Planewave Corrected Dall Kirkham telescope in a new dome, along with all the fixings, including a top of the line Apogee CCD. That was fun!

I'm very glad to be a part of this new astronomy community.

Welcome, Scott! You are very well credentialed, both as an educator and astronomer. Did you ever happen to own a J.W. Fecker Celestar telescope, either the 4- or 6-inch? I maintain the Celestar Registry and am trying to keep track of all the survivors. I also maintain a Coast Instrument Treckerscope Registry as well. Same question applies.

Hope to see you around here often! Please share some of your vintage scopes with us.

Thanks for the welcome, Lew. I would love to someday own either a Fecker or a Treckerscope, but cannot say that I have yet had the privilege. I don't recall the last time I saw either of them for sale. I am a big collector of scopes by Edmund Scientific, but am more recently getting into Unitrons and their offshoots.

    Cheers!
