    Hi:

I have been in the hobby for 18 years. Yet, I have not joined a site like this for a number of years. Time was my biggest issue. But things are clearing up, and soon I may have time to spare.

As an amateur astronomer I prefer objects such as planets and bright DSO. This is probably due to my primary observing site; my front and back yards. However, I have been able to get a lot of observing sessions by using my grab and go scope and binoculars.

I am an observer only and enjoy the solitude of a nice night with the stars.

Welcome to AC, Leonard. I think you will like this site. It is laid back and offers something for just about everyone. Post as much or as little as you like. Looking forward to your future posts.

Hello Leonard, from nearby (in an astronomical sense) North Carolina. I always observe from my back yard, but I'm almost all astrophotography. As my eyes slowly lose their sharpness the camera will make up for it! Welcome to the forum.

    Thank you:

I admire all of you that take pics. I don’t think I have the patience. And I am afraid I am much too compulsive and prob drive myself crazy. So much so I fear I’d loose the reasons I love the hobby: it’s calming effects with the solitude, and the joy I have when observing. I need astronomy to be fun.

But I can associate with physical changes. For me, I tire much easier when engaged in a long observing nights under the stars. This has caused me to alter the scopes I use. I do a lot more grab and go astronomy. Also, I tend to use less complicated set ups. My goto setups are gathering dust.
