    Dear Forum,

I just got a new Meade 80mm Series 6000 ED Triplet APO telescope along with the Meade SERIES 6000 FIELD FLATTENER/FOCAL REDUCER 2". Meade ended up shipping the wrong field flattener that doesn't even work with the new 6000 series APO. Having a nightmare with customer service getting them to understand their own products! Anyone have this issue before?

First problem is that the Meade instruction manual for their telescope is outdated and doesn't even depict the telescope that I received.

Second, the new 6000 ED Triplet has a locking screw in the draw tube instead of 3 thumbscrews. The field flattener they sent me doesn't match the picture in the included flattener instruction manual or the picture on their own website.

Just getting back into astronomy and astrophotography.. Clear skies, -Erik

Well hello there Erik! It's very good to have you aboard A-C. You are very welcome here.

A very nice little scope. I can well empathise with the (I'll use the word) nightmare that has often been the case with Meade's "customer-service." I've been down that road before. Yikes! My best advice to anyone considering a Meade anything - buy it through a long-time business that's been carrying Meade for a long time. And look into how their customers rate them, Often times the best dealer's truly shine in how they treat the customer after the sale has been made. A long-term Meade dealer would save your neck the aggravation of putting up with what I'd have to call their: 'Customer-Abuse' Dept! One rep. at Meade actually told me to send my scope back to them, where they'd be happy to send it to their 'crusher.' I only needed some advice. :D

The only saving grace is their exquisite optics. They can be worth it. Once. I learned my lesson and went through one of their long-term dealers after that. Something tells me you'll be following my advice after your tale of woe! :p Their goods actually do make up for it. But it can take awhile.

I hope you'll post some of your work here, once you're sorted. So welcome back to this wonderful hobby & art!

    Best wishes -

    Dave
