Evidence wanted on liabilities, insurance and charging for UK commercial spaceflight

The Government is seeking evidence to shape the future policy on the liabilities, insurance and charging arrangements for commercial spaceflight, following Royal Assent of the Space Industry Act.

The Space Industry Act became law on Thursday 15 March unlocking an exciting new era of British space innovation, exploration and investment.

The Government committed to issuing a call for evidence, to seek input on liabilities provisions following Parliamentary debates. The UK Space Agency and Department for Transport are now leading that call to help inform future policy on liabilities and on insurance and charging arrangements as well.

Dr Graham Turnock, Chief Executive of the UK Space Agency, said:

“We are ensuring the regulatory framework set out in the Space Industry Act leads to a safe, responsible and attractive environment for small-satellite launch and sub-orbital flight.

“This is a chance for interested parties to have their say on the important issues of liabilities, insurance and charging, as we take the next steps towards enabling launches from UK spaceports for the first time, as part of the Government’s Industrial Strategy.”

The Space Industry Act is the most modern piece of space industry legislation anywhere in the world and means UK businesses will soon be able to compete in the commercial space race from UK spaceports.

Yeah, well. Anything landing in my back garden is staying there!

Considering how well a "Computerized, programmable toaster..." successfully burns the toast - I think I'll pass on flying anywhere again if I can help it.

On a more cheery note - Tiangong-1 is due to hit soon - if it hits at all - and I'm tracking it all-the-way. And I'm with you - if it lands at my place - it's staying! Modern Art is what it'll be from then on.

Yeah, they can fly people to the Moon but can't make a smart toaster that doesn't burn toast.

I deleted my previous post, it was too aggressive for nothing against the subject of the thread :D we live in a world where we can't say what we think, I have to cherish that.

Sill following Tiangong-1 here. They're narrowing it down as I write this. Speaking of "where we can't say what we think" - I think I hope it at least crashes onto something expensive and valuable to someone & something truly appropriate. Perhaps the Mar-a-Lago Golf-Club that Hern Drumpf owns - at an angle - and blows the whole place up!

The odds are with us he'll be there at the time! It'll be a "Hole-In-One!"

PreviSat does the trick. But right now there are dozens of new one's - flash-in-the-pan one's that I've tried out. Most of these prove to be unstable and are, imho, best to avoid.

Technically it could bounce-off a few shallow rocks along the the Grand Banks of Newfoundland - but at present Southern Africa is looking like the best bet. But now they can't even decide on a day.

    Don't hold your breath. Yet.
