Why do people want to light up the night with such reckless abandon? Although it was cloudy last night I went on a nocturnal hike twixt two villages following a canal towpath in a dark green bortle zone.the inky darkness has a beauty of its own, owls hooting, cries of animals unknown. No head torch needed for after a while your eyes adjust and the world becomes a black and white television set!skeleton winter trees against the black sky.
