Just in from a pleasant evening of observing (had to cut it short because of work tomorrow). Mild temperature (about 65F/18C) and good seeing. I caught a beautiful apparition of the waxing crescent moon and the Hyades. The first shot is the original image, one second exposure at ISO 1600:

and the same image slightly enhanced to show up better against the white theme:

    That's wonderful, Reggie.

I too was watching the Moon yesterday and saw it occult a few stars. The phase was perfect for Endymion, with jagged shadows reaching all across it's plane. Lovely Earth shine too, like in your images.

    Great!

Thanks, Ruud. It was such a beautiful sight. It was almost an emotional experience when I saw how well the image came out, and I took several at different focal lengths. I love the waxing crescent phase because it looks so striking against the background sky.

Very nice these 2 images with the moon inside Taurus. Highly interesting. :)

Thanks Neb. The moon visits this area often because it's near the ecliptic. Sometimes, the moon occults Aldebaran which is really spectacular!

Ill take care to look at the position of the moon from now on, to see if it's positioned close to other famous objects like this one.
