4.0 The Best Medium Eyepiece For The Price

      Pros:

      Accurate,Strong Construction,Compact,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

A great medium power, wide field eyepiece with good corrections and outstanding eye relief. Though not a UWA or a Nagler, it is a very compact, light weight alternative that also barlows well at a fraction of the cost. Good glass in a nice housing.

      5.0 The Antares 8.6mm W-70 eyepiece.

      Pros:

Recommend even in scopes as fast as F/5.

      Cons:

The W-70 line has been inconsistent in fast scopes.

      Comments:

I was looking for an inexpensive short focal length eyepiece that gave expansive clear crisp views with enough eye relief so that my eyes would not freeze from it, in our northern Minnesota winters. This one is it for me! (note: in another review of mine, the 19 mm W-70 doesn't fare so well). I have found you have to hold your head still to maintain the image however (some blackout). Still, for the price (got mine on sale for about $45) at under $60 the views in my 10 inch dobsonian reflector are magnificent on planets, galaxies or just about anything. I'm excited to see the new lengths coming out too. (more info with the 19mm review).
