Manufacturer Description
For the discriminating observer, Baader offers a line of premium Neutral Density filters. These filters are planoptically polished with Baader's famous Phantom Coating Group Multicoatings. The result - no reflections, no straylight, and no ghosting, offering performance unlike any other competing filter on the market today.
This 1.25" filter has a neutral density of 1.8, so its transmission factor is 1.5%. It has a standard 1.25" male filter thread (M28.5x0.6) so it can be screwed on to virtually any astronomy eyepiece or accessory that has 1.25" filter threads. Also features a standard 1.25" female filter thread on the other side, so it can be stacked with additional filters. Cell thickness = 7.7mm (0.30"); Clear filter aperture = 26.4mm (1.04").
Neutral density filters are excellent filters to reduce the overall brightness of an image to cut down glare while viewing bright astronomical objects through a telescope. They are useful for splitting binary systems, comfortably observing the moon, or stacking with other planetary filters. ND filters retain true color balance of the objects being observed since all wavelengths are transmitted uniformly over the entire spectrum.

Great filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:I needed darker than the usual moon filters for viewing a full moon. I felt like wearing sunglasses along with the lighter filter. This did the job, along with the usual Baader quality!

Nov 12, 2017Does exactly what it should
Pros: Cons: Comments:Reduces the brightness without loss of contrast. One may even say it increases contrast since your eye is more relaxed. Recommended.

Jul 10, 2017Purchased for use in my Intes Herschel Wedge
Pros: Cons: Comments:Years ago I purchased an Intes Herschel wedge for solar viewing. Until now I've been stacking cheaper ND filters and a polarizer which took up too much room in the eyepiece holder causing the eyepiece to tilt and rock. Didn't use the wedge much because of this. I decided it was silly when the proper filters were available. I own other Baader filters and they are always top-notch, so I ordered this one, and it too is of great quality. Using this filter, with an additional single polarizer to vary the brightness does the trick! Baader products really are high quality, and I get great high resolution views of the - now quiet - solar surface.

Mar 14, 2017Baader ND 0.6 (25% trans.)
Pros: Cons: Comments:Fits all of my eyepieces well (mostly Tele Vues); great for viewing the moon, Venus and the sun (through a full aperture solar filter). Mostly used with Tele Vue refractors and an older Celestron 5. The coatings are great , but take some experience and care to clean them when needed.

Jan 7, 2017A Surprisingly Effective Lunar Brightness Limiter
Pros: Cons: Comments:It improves contrast while preserving enough brightness, which doesn't necessarily happen with an ND .9 filter.

May 1, 2015Very good filter
Pros:Strong Construction,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:A neutral density filter for very luminous objects using great apertures. Very good quality, no ghost images. Very recommendable. I use it for photographing the sun with an LPI camera and an Astro Baader Solar Photo Filter, because using only the Solar Filter the image is still too bright for the exposure times of the LPI. With this neutral density filter the exposure time is increased to the level that the LPI could take appropriate images.

Feb 16, 2014Comfortable view
Pros:Compact,Lightweight,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Helps from being blinded by the light. Used some other ones and found the Baader to be a lot more comfortable to use.

Mar 22, 2013Baader ND Filter
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I have a variety of these Baader ND filters for use on my solar wedge. I bought this one to replace another one in my solar wedge. I also had to replace one that was broken that I accidently dropped.

Feb 8, 2013Baader ND Filter
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Compact,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:I have purchased many of the Baader ND filters in various densities, ND.6,.9,1.8,and ND 3.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I use them exclusively on my solar wedge(must have ND3 installed) for brightness reduction.
Don't use these on the sun by themselves (unsafe) as that requires another solar filter like Baader solar film. But they can also be used on the Moon or other sky objects where a reduction in brightness improves the image in the telescope. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 29, 2012Baader ND Filter
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Accurate,Strong Construction,Lightweight,Compact
Cons: Comments:I bought this filter for use with my 3" refractor and Baader white light solar filter. The solar filter itself provides a comfortagble safe view butI wanted to reduce the brightness more. I purchased the .6 and .9 ND filters. Both (used separately) provided a very good sun view improving visibility of fine solar detail. These ND filters are also excellent for Moon observation.
