Manufacturer Description

The Sky Surfer V is Baader Planetarium's premium red dot finder. Made of black anodized aluminum, the Sky Surfer V is an elegant match for any telescope. Its large large clear aperture makes finding objects easy (outside diameter of the SSV is 45mm). As with it's smaller brother, the Sky Surfer V avoids the dew problems of other finders, thanks to it's integral (and removable) dewshields. The new optimized visual coatings result in virtually transparent views of the sky (unlike many other red-dot finders).

Each Sky Surfer V now includes Baader's new machined aluminum quick release dovetail system, consisting of an aluminum dovetail riser (mounts to the finder) and dovetail base that mounts to your scope.

Mounting and adjustment of the Sky Surfer V is simple. Elevation and Azimuth adjustment is accomplished by turning the two enclosed adjustment knobs. The red locator dot intensity is adjusted by an 11 position adjusting knob. Attachment to your telescope is also straightforward, with all necessary parts included. Simply attach the machined dovetail base to your telescope, slip on the finder, and tighten the two dovetail clamp screws. Each Sky Surfer includes a replaceable 3V lithium battery for extra long life.

Baader part numbers: # SSV and # 2957310

      5.0 Perfect

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I really like this red dot. I had been fighting with the stock, plastic, red dot for a couple years, every time I changed the battery I had to take it off and fight the thing to get it realigned which was always a nightmare. I tried a telrad but didn’t care for it. Maybe I got a bad one but never bright enough for day use. This one is metal, doesn’t have to be removed to replace the battery, and the adjustment dials actually work! When remove and remount it, it holds alignment good. The dovetail bracket fit my 9,25 SCT perfect. The mating dovetail on the finder doesn’t have a stop, but just flush it out with the bracket each time and holds alignment. You do have to unscrew the covers to reveal the adjusters which require a dime to adjust. But you don’t have to worry about accidentally turning one in the dark. Adjusters have clicks, not just smooth turns, but a click is an extremely fine adjustment. Very easy to align exactly spot on. Brightness can be set from barely visible at night to very bright during the day. The red dot is small letting point the scope accurately. It is bigger than expected. This is not a small finder by any means! Bottom line, like all baader stuff, very expensive but perfect quality, function, dead on accurate. A joy to both setup and use.

      5.0 A Lot of Research!

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I'm a pretty cautious buyer and I looked around at various finders quite a bit before I decided on the Baader. Fantastically well made and works on everything form my ES 102 FCD 100 (with adaptor) to my DSLR for astrophotography. (also with adaptor) Great product.

      Pros:

      Accurate,Strong Construction,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Comments:

The perfect red dot finder for a go to telescope. It always works when you need it unlike the majority of cheaper red dot finders.

      Teutonic in build quality.

      Wunderbar!!!
