Product Info
Manufacturer Description
The Baader Universal Quick Release dovetail finder base (finder-shoe) # 2457000 is compatible with most standard Vixen or Synta style finder brackets and red dot finders, including Baader's MQR-III, MQR-IV, and Sky-Surfer V finder. The base can also be used as an additional base on telescopes that don't already have a finder shoe in a convenient position.
It is CNC machined with a curved base and features elongated holes for a good fitting to almost any telescope, including Schmidt-Cassegrains (SCT). The Baader finder base has two elongated holes for screws up to M5, with either a countersunk head or a flat cylindrical head. Spacing between the screws can range from 27-45mm. In addition, the base has a central countersunk hole for screws up to M5. Screws and nuts are not included.
This item is an excellent replacement for the finder base on many Explore Scientific telescopes. Replacing the original Explore Scientific "Meade-style" base with this item allows you to use the much more common Synta / Vixen style finder brackets on your telescope. However, please meausre the hole spacing on your specific Explore Scientific telescope first to ensure that it meets the hole spacing criteria of this Baader base.
Baader part number DOVE-B or 2457000 or 2457000a.

Replaces Explore Scientific propriety dovetail
Pros: Cons: Comments:The dovetail on my ED80 would only fit ES finders. This fit perfectly and let's me use many other finders from Celestron and others.

Nov 23, 2018Still great.
Pros: Cons: Comments:I have one of these on just about all of my telescopes so I can switch finders between any of them. They work perfectly and should last forever.

Nov 19, 2017Baader Standard Dovetail Base
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is a really well made product and I would not hesitate to recommend it. It does take up a bit more space than I anticipated but still just the quality I would expect with the Baader name.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The difficulty with this item for its use I was hoping to address was for a Explore Scientific finder base I wanted to replace on a 80mm FCD-100 series refractor. I had read through numerous posts that it was a direct replacement for the E.S. base. This turned out to not be the case since it would not fit properly since it would interfere with the focuser assembly angle adjuster screw. It could fit but it would not allow the angle adjuster screw to function since it would contact that screw and not allow movement. In retrospect, I think the posts were only referring to use on the Essential Series 80mm scope and not the FCD-100 series. So just be aware that there is a difference and depending on the particular Explore Scientific scope, it may or may not work so be sure you check to be sure of this issue before purchasing it.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 3, 2017Baader dovetail finder base
Pros: Cons: Comments:You can tell by just looking at it that its a very well made finder shoe base. It's made so it can be installed on various diameter OTA's. The screw slots are long in order to fit different spacing's for different mounting conditions. Very nice.

May 3, 2017Very Nice
Pros: Cons: Comments:I had eight telescopes and five different styles of finder mounting brackets and dovetails. I now have eight telescopes and three different styles. I replaced all of the random ones with this bracket, and all of my finders have the same dovetail. Now I can mix and match however I need. These brackets are really well made and I've used them on a C5, C6 and two C8's. The locking screws go straight in, insted of being angled, so if you have a dovetail that is a little too narrow it will still be secured well. Anything smaller than a C5 diameter tube may not work, but they will work with scopes that have a diameter greater than a C8 (which is about 9"). The other three telescopes just kept their original or special finder setups.

Jan 13, 2017A precise little thing
Pros: Cons: Comments:It seems Baader never disappoints. Even this simple little device has an incredible level of quality. You have to turn the two thumb screws with your fingers to understand what I mean.

Dec 30, 2016Baader Dovetail Base -- Excellent
Pros: Cons: Comments:A very well-made piece of equipment. Looks like it's designed to fit the curved surface of focusers of different diameters. Fits the two-inch focuser on my Astro-Tech 102 perfectly -- does not wiggle.

Jul 31, 2016Baader Dovetail Finder Base, A GREAT base mount!
Pros:Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This is a replacement finder scope base mount for my new Explore Scientific 127mm APO telescope. I had to swap out the original finder base so my Stellarvue finder scope & ring mount would fit. Not an easy item to find! I was quite pleased how nice the threaded thumb screws were made, very exact! The other types of thumb screws I have used in the past had a very sloppy fit compared to the threads on these thumb screws! 5 stars! Thank You!

Feb 8, 2015Perfect replacement for ES127 Essentials
Pros:Accurate,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I bought this to replace the Explore Scientific ES127 Essentials finder shoe that came with it which only works for a very small set of (expensive for what you get) finders. This let me use my existing Orion (i.e. Synta) finder directly. I should mention that on my ES127 Essentials there are only two hole for the finder shoe mount so this fit perfectly.
