Manufacturer Description
Using advanced computer design, combinations of low dispersion and high refractive index optical glasses, and durable multilayer deposition coatings, Explore Scientific 82° Series extreme wide field eyepieces are optimized to produce high contrast, high resolution, and superior flat field characteristics. The visual effect of these eyepieces with their long eye-relief and their 82° apparent field is truly a full-immersion experience. Your eye is relaxed, allowing you to easily use the "averted vision" technique to study faint details across a huge field-of-view.
Each eyepiece is meticulously assembled into precision machined metal lens barrels that maintain the perfect alignment of the optical train for years of rugged use in the field. The 82° Series eyepieces come with a twist-up rubber eye-guard that raise to the desired height for the comfort of the observer, and as experienced astronomers know, eye comfort is critical when trying to observe at the visual limits of the telescope.
To keep internal reflections to a minimum, all internal surfaces of the eyepiece barrel are flat black, as well as the edges of the lenses themselves to minimize the scattering of light within the lenses themselves.
Explore Scientific's eyepieces are backed with their exclusive Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty. Limited Warranty is one year, which converts to the Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty when product is registered within 60 days of purchase. We think that you will find Explore Scientific eyepieces rank among the finest obtainable and represent an outstanding value.

Another very nice Explore Scientific eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:I got this one after being very pleased with my 11mm. This has not disappointed. Comfortable with very nice planetary views through my well collimated 8" f/6 Newtonian.

Oct 11, 2015Very Good but not Perfect
Pros:Lightweight,Compact,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:My wife bought many accessories in recent years to me. I decided comment about this equipment. The image of ES82 has low level of distortion. Almost nothing of lateral color, longitudinal color and reticular errors. The curvature of field, the astigmatism control and the anti reflection are decent. The construction is adequate for the price. So what I did not like? Resolution (surface). Chinese telescopes like Celestron, Meade, Skywatcher and Orion (US) deliver images with lambda error between 1/6 and 1/10. Comparing ES82 and its higher priced competitor it's possible see that in telescopes with 1/6 lambda differences are almost imperceptible, I guess 5% difference overall performance. Systems with 1/8 lambda we can see more differences, but nothing striking. Telescope systems better than 1/10 (made by excelent ATMs, brands like APM or Orion UK) you realize important differences between these eyepieces. Polishing surface of eyepiece is less perceptive in less accurate telescopes. The ES82 series is a great option low cost and high performance, but are more distant from perfection than their more expensive competitors.

Sep 5, 2014AMAZING!
Pros:Accurate,Messier Objects,Planets,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons:Heavy
Comments:This was the first eyepiece I bought that didn't come included in my Orion xt6i. I was expecting a lot and this eyepiece definitely delivered and then some. The planets look amazing through this eyepiece and if you have dark enough skies the Messier objects look stunning. This eyepiece is heavier then your standard eyepiece but it makes up for it with it's awesome views.

Mar 30, 2013Simply Fantastic
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I can't say enough good things about this eyepiece. Right out of the box it just feels solid, well crafted and special. In my 8" f5/9 dob I don't see any distortion, except in perhaps the last 2% of the field. Contrast is much better than any of my other eyepieces. Eye relief is a bit tight for glasses-wearers, but is comfortable enough for me with my glasses off. Light scatter is also controlled fairly well in this eyepiece. In my 8" dob, this eyepiece has given me many memorable views, and was the first to ever show me detail in Jupiter's cloud belts. For the price, I doubt that the ES 82 degree eyepieces can be beat.
