LPI review
Pros:Inexpensive
Cons:Poor software
Comments:I bought my LPI soon after they came out and can only give the LPI an average rating. The primary problem is the included software that drives the LPI. As someone who writes software for a living, I find LPI software bug-ridden and prone to crash. Although I have both PC and Mac laptops and have tried Registax, I find that the Mac based Lynkeos is orders of magnitude better than anything else. Given new driving software, the LPI is capable of producing decent images with appropriate care and seeing conditions. I have yet to master the art of processing images, but what I have been able to produce are an order of magnitude better than what I was able to take in the 60s and 70s. Assuming you are willing to throw away the Meade software and look for other software, you should be able to produce good solar and planetary images with this imager.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesMay 31, 2007Meade LPI (Lunar Planetary Imager)
Pros:Uses USB 1.1, great for planets and as a guider!
Cons:Nothing really but better software helps!
Comments:This was my first ccd imager a few years ago! I'm not that big on spending big bucks on my astro stuff so for the budget person this is one nice planetary imager with the option to also view some brighter DSO!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Using the OEM software is pretty good but I found other kinds of software helps brings out the best of this small and cheap imager! Works great as a guider also!Sort by
