A workhorse of a lens.
Pros:Quality construction, great performance
Cons:None
Comments:This is the included EP that came with my XT8. I can see why they chose this lens to start you off with because it works very well.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The fov is good enough to enjoy full views of the moon with nice detail. Eye relief is acceptable as well. Also produces nice sharp images of the deeper planets like Jupiter. You can make out it's cloud bands with no problem. I use it, along with my other lenses, every time I use my scope.
The quality of the lens is good as is the frame. Has a fold down eyepiece that's seems well made and lasting too. The images were clear and sharp from end to end. Nice indeed. It also Barlow's very well which is always a plus in my book.
Overall this lens earned my respect and I'm glad to own it.Mar 17, 2008A very nice eyepiece
Pros:52° apparent field of view; pinpoint stars from center to edge of the field of view
Cons:None
Comments:My 25mm Orion Sirius Plossl came with my Orion XT10 Classic, and it's the best 25mm eyepiece I've used in my three years as an amateur astronomer. The eyepiece is of very nice quality and design, and the light transmission is as good as some of the higher end pieces I own. This eyepiece is always the first out of my case and into my telescope. It delivers spectacular views, and shows pinpoint stars all the way to the edge of the field of view. If you've never purchased an Orion telescope, and got one of these eyepieces as part of the package; I would recommend that you add one to your collection. For the original sell price of $42.95, it's well worth the investment.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesOct 19, 2007A good addition
Pros:Very good optics; Nice FOV and eye relief.
Cons:Excessive eye relief when used with a barlow; Basic plossl limitations per FOV.
Comments:This EP is included with with many Orion scopes. So, when I purchased my Orion 8" Dob, there it was.....
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
It has a very good look to its construction. With a very nice fit and make, it is obviously well made. The large eye lens has a nice green tint to it. It comes with a soft rubber eye cup and end caps for both ends of the EP.
It is odd that this EP comes packaged with a 10mm Sirius Plossl. The 10mm generally has not been well received in the astronomy community (but I believe some of the criticism it receives is unfair), while the 25mm usually has received good reviews. In my opinion both are decent EPs, certainly better than many of the economy plossls on the market. However this one, the 25mm, is the better of the two.
To begin with, I have used this EP with every scope I own. I start many an observing session with it in the focuser. I like it as a finder EP, as it doesn't suffer from excessive eye relief when used alone. I have noticed very little curvature even in my F6 Dob. Contrast is very good when viewing clusters and galaxies. Glare and ghosting is not apparent. Not a hint of chromatic aberration is evident.
I have used this EP with various filters and it performs fine. It really seems to do well with a broad band filter when used on galaxies such as Andromeda, M81 and M82, etc. It also does a fine job on nebulae. The FOV is well defined and the eye relief is good.
It presents a bit of a problem with a barlow in that it suffers (in some cases) from blackouts. This is due to an increase in eye relief and is more prone to occur with a fast scope. Otherwise I can find very little fault. Really, this is a good, solid EP. It compares well to higher priced plossls in its FL. It is a good addition to many an Orion scope.
I would rate this EP between "Very Good" and and "Average".Sort by
