Manufacturer Description

Feather Touch Micro Focuser for Celestron C-8 (Not for CPC or NexStar SE telescopes). Manufacturer part number: FTM-C8.

Most modern Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes come with a single speed stock focuser on the rear cell. While these stock devices do bring an image to focus, the focal point is extremely sensitive to the rotational position of the focuser knob. As a result, it’s often frustrating and time consuming to get objects to snap into sharp focus. The dual speed Starlight Instruments Feather Touch Micro Focuser is an ideal replacement for the stock focuser for your Celestron 8” SCT. A joy to use, the Feather Touch Micro Focuser provides precise, buttery smooth control of standard and ultrafine 1:10-speed manual focusing to get the best possible images from your telescope.

The Starlight Instruments Feather Touch Micro Focuser is easily installed in place of the original focus knob on many Celestron C-8 optical tubes. A built-in stop prevents the primary mirror from detaching from the focuser. The focuser is simple to install yourself in about 10 minutes. Detailed instruction are included.

The Feather Touch Micro Focuser is precision-machined and anodized black with a brass fine-focus knob and is ideal for both imaging or visual observing. All Starlight Instruments products and accessories are precision machined from the highest quality materials to ensure long life and trouble-free operation.

Selecting the correct SCT microfocuser for your Celestron telescope:

This model is not compatible with old orange tube C8 telescopes. Although this model does not fit the new CPC-800 or NexStar 8 SE telescopes from Celestron, a separate model for these telescopes is available at Agena AstroProducts.

Celestron PC11 vs C11 Back

If your telescope is less than a few years old, check the style of the back cell to see which version of the Feather TouchSCT Micro Focuser you need: If your telescope has a flat back (left picture), you need the standard "C" Micro Focuser (this product). If your telescope has a triangular pattern on the back (right picture), you will need the "CPC" version of the Micro Focuser.

5.0 Works fine, used on Ultima C8, 1994 vintage.

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

No problems, installation went fine, you may need a ring puller if you're worried about damaging the E-ring on the original scope rod. I recommend reading the installation instruction manual before purchase so you can verify your scope is compatible wrt the baffle stop.

      5.0 Awesome upgrade

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I purchased this for an older Celestron C8. I had been using a commercially available circular wheel that fit on the outside of the existing focuser knob but found that solution to be largely unsatisfactory due to a lack of fine control. The Feathertouch Micro is a beautifully engineered piece and though, cost wise, 8x the prior "solution" it is really worth it. First off, it replaces the original focuser so easily and precisely. Secondly, it works so buttery smooth with great precision. The fine focus component works so well - so nice to achieve this level of focusing sharpness without having to resort to a screw-on Crawford focuser which adds weight and changes balance. I've had both and prefer the Feathertouch Micro but if you have mirror flop (unfortunate) your best bet is the screw on Crawford focuser. On other thing, I did have to re-collimate my C8 after installing the Micro. Highly recommended but YMMV.
