Early 4" F/5 Televue Genesis
Pros:Huge flat field with awesome low power performance with decent planetary, double star views.
Cons:Be careful buying second hand but is a good value compared to new purchase.
Comments:A beautiful telescope that was way ahead of it's time. Awesome flat 4 + degree field with good color correction. I was amazed at how many pinpoint stars as dim as magnitude 12 would be sprinkled in the eyepiece. I found planetary performance good using Naglers or Celestron Ultimas with a Televue 5x Powermate. This scope does require a good mount (TV Gibraltar or CG-5) and I would recommend upgrading the mounting ring so you can use a TV Starbeam and maybe an 8x50 finder. A two speed focuser could be considered as well. My favorite eyepieces with this scope were my TV 27mm PanOptic, Celestron 18mm and 24mm Ultimas using a TV 5x Powermate, as well as my early Japanese made Naglers. If you are looking to buy one second hand be careful as these scopes (practically any refractor) were prone to mold so request good lens photos!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
