Classic Performance from the 13mm Type I
Pros:Excellent correction; Very good contrast; Ultra wide field
Cons:Kidney bean blackout when off-axis
Comments:This eyepiece has delivered excellent performance since 1980. The field is sharp from edge to edge even in fast newtonian reflectors. I use one in my 16" f/4.5 reflector with great success. The throughput is as good as any quality plossl. The contrast is very good and better than any standard eyepiece. The eye relief is a very usable 18mm, but the caveat is that there is a fair amount of spherical aberration of the exit pupil which means that a portion of the view blacks-out if your eye is off-axis. Some can't stand this, but many learn to accommodate and hold steady on-axis. This is the only drawback to this eyepiece's design.
