    Hi, all!
These images were taken from video shot on the Orion StarShoot 5MP Solar System Camera with my Orion SkyView Pro 180mm Mak from 29 June to 13 July. As you can see, the dust storm has taken its toll on resolving detail on the Red Planet. Now, even the polar albedo regions seemed to have dimmed. But some dark areas manage to peek through the dust.

    ASTRONOMY - MARS (5MP COMPARISON) 6-29, 7-06 & 7-13-18 CAPTION.jpg

These images were taken from video using my Orion Deep Space Video Camera II, tweaked for solar system imaging, with the same scope from 10 June through 13 July. From early June you can really see the difference the dust storm has made in terms of capturing detail:

Clear skies (here and on Mars)!

Very nice on-the-eyes and valuable historical-record of the Martian Dust-Storm of 2018, Reggie!

Please do keep up the good works. I'm keeping copies as we converse.

Thanks, Dave. This dust storm may be as historic as the opposition itself, lol. Is this some kind of strange synchronicity? What a time to have a planet-wide storm! Well, anyways...I broke down and ordered meself one of those Celestron Mars filters. Should be here by Tuesday. I plan on doing some interesting comparisons with the Orion and even may do a little imaging with them in the coming weeks!

I think you'll be pleased with this Celestron offering. The difference to the Orion Mars Filter is almost as dramatic as the one between the B+W FL-D and the Tiffen FL-D filters <below>. Almost is the operative word.....

Oh hey - NEWS! I finally figured out how to easily reduce the 'weight' issue of my photo's so as to take an image that is 2+MB and won't load into the A-C Forum server and can drop them down below 2MB simply. The image above is one example - came out quite well, too.

Gimp is very good to reduce size and weight of pictures. What tool did you used @Dave In Vermont?

@Orion25 My god the planet is growing fast, I want that storm stop ASAP.

Nevertheless, very interesting exercise you are doing there.

Nice image sequences, Reggie. I agree about this dust storm being historic and encourage all imagers and sketchers to record it. The storm has wreaked planet-wide havoc for us, but nonetheless possesses a uniquely captivating beauty.

Thanks, Ed. I'm considering the storm as much about the 2018 Mars experience as anything else. I just ordered the Celestron Mars filter to do some visual comparison tests with my Orion one. So far, the Orion filter has highlighted the polar regions and dark maria somewhat despite the dust. My only gripe is the deep magenta tint (but it is a color filter after all :p). I always look forward to seeing your images and reading your observations as well :)

@orion 25 congradulations with the purchase of the Celestron filter, I am waiting for mine too.
@Dave In Vermont Xnconvert yes very good I use it all the time to convert batches of images. It can convert images to PDF too which is something I use all the time at the job.

Thanks, Mak. I'm trying to make the most of it, too. BTW, I have a Celestron Mars filter on the way, so I'll have some experiments to try, lol! Great article, thanks! The video - what can I say - it's definitely unique! That chick on the unicorn is HOTTT!

The Celestron Mars filter is very much like the old TeleVue Planetary Bandmate, quite different from the Orion version in ways. The vocalist in Muse is the son of the guitar player in the Tornados.

    Cassandra Bell is just gorgeous.

That's some serious keyboard sound there, very primitive but I like it. (The solo at 1:40)

thanks for sharing the strange music @Mak the Night.

Nope i did not know Pentangle either! it's great, makes me think of some material from Gentle Giant. You should continue with selections from the 70s @Mak the Night. :)

    Pink Fairies?

I'm pretty sure Lemmy (Motorhead, Hawkwind) was in the PF's at one time.

I think he played in everything in the 70's.
