My 1960s Monolux 4348 (Towa 50x600) went from this:

    To this with an EQ-1:

She's the reverse of aperture fever - and a blast to use.

It's interesting isn't it...going to smaller apertures like this makes it feel like one has missed a perspective on observing and that the whole sky becomes new again to explore. I have a little 65mm spotter I now use for astronomy and it is a blast!

My two Tasco's recently went pro too. But mine are on a Skyview Pro with a Meade DS goto system. It's nice being able to observe now with out having to reach around for the slow motion controls to keep the object centered in the eyepiece.

Great upgrades! The first step for me was replacing the original crappy eyepieces with much better Kellners & Orthoscopics. Putting the improved OTA on a modern mount with hands-free tracking shows that quality vintage glass can do well against the current mass-produced scopes. You're right Bill, it is like rediscovering the familiar objects - the Pleiades and the Double Cluster in the Mini are heavenly views
