Haha, couldn't find the 70.0 version but the 0.17.0 version is superb! I'm enjoying it right now since clouds rule. The mapping is incredible! I could play with this all night...and with these clouds around...aaaaand no work tomorrow...signing off now! :p

Check out the planets and moons of the solar-system. Even Venus and Mercury are decked-out in names of the features. Here's our Moon:

This is why I've been running all the 'betas' lately - watching the developer's evolve this project on our local star-system. Then I woke up this morning and a thought went through my head - "They released 0.17.0 awhile ago." Went to my email and there was a letter from Alex. Sure enough, he'd just announced 0.17.0 was now loose.

Went and downloaded it. It's nice to have the planetary topography on a stable release. The 'betas' can be a bit buggy.

I am using 0.14.3 and I am always impressed each time I use it. The revision from the repository Linux Mint. (; old version is still very good for me!

The developer's were grousing early today over who'd be the one to re-code the project for Linux for the new revisions. They stuck it on (to) a member from France. But you'd be in good hands if you wanted to download the new 0.17.0 build. And if you had any troubles - a developer would be 'Johnny-On-The-Spot' there to walk you through it and answer any & all questions.

Which they seem always to be. I don't think these guys ever sleep! Maybe they need the Melatonin. Hell - maybe they ARE on Melatonin and no longer require sleep!

To a previous question you had: Melatonin is a minor natural neuroleptic chemical that acts on the receptors that Serotonin and nor-Epinephrine do - to set your body/brains' biological-clock. It tells you to relax now and makes you drowsy and helps you get quality sleep (with R.E.M.) . It's been used by airline-pilot who have their body-clock's turned into Cuckoo Clocks by constantly crossing myriad time-zones. The Melatonin adjusts the bio-clock to whatever new time-zone the pilot is in for the night/day/sleep-period.

Take a few milligrams of that. You'll sleep like a baby - with vivid dreams. Sometimes lucid-dreaming has been reported as well. Look it up.

Melatonin, Valerian, and Chamomile? If that doesn't knock you out - try a hammer yet? :p

Lordy! It also has Passiflora Incarnata (Passionflower) extract? That's beta-Cabolines! You'll sleep - with your eyes open! Tripping your brains out! Wow! (send me some?)

    Passiflora Incarnata, interesting.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora_incarnata

The oral consumption of this plant may prejudice the ability to drive and use machinery.

The flavonoid chrysin is thought to be the main substance responsible for the sedative effect of P. incarnata. The anxiety-reducing property is caused by the binding of chrysin to GABA-Benzodiazepinreceptors.[16] Little amounts of alkaloids has been reported in P. incarnata (<0.005%). Examples for alkaloids are: harmol, harmine, harmalol.[15] Other substances existing in P. incarnata includes mono- and polysaccharides, amino acids and essential oils.[17]

That's interesting an anxiety reducing plant, i want to try it. :)

The alkaloids you cited are of the chemical family called beta-Carbolines. Harmaline and Harmine are the principle psychedelics in Banisteriopsis Caapi - more commonly known as Yage (Yah-Hay) and Ayahuasca - which have been used since antiquity by Native peoples' of South America.

An excellent book on this is "The Wizard of the Upper Amazon" - written by Manuel Cordoba-Rios. Worth finding and reading. There is a good chapter to be found on Harmaline in "Psychedelic's Encyclopedia" by Peter Stafford. Also known as 'Telepathine,' it was used by Native-Folk's before they had telegraph or telephones to communicate over long distance.

You may snicker at this last sentence, but I've had personal experience with this property myself. What we know about the possibilities of human-consciousness is vastly outweighed by what we do NOT know. So if you play with plant materials that contain Harmaline, Harmine, Harmol, and Harmalol - don't be terribly surprised if you find yourself in a waking dream-state and/or finding things seem "just a bit different."

"Nixi Honi! Nixi Honi! Vison-Vine! Vison-Vine!" From a ceremonial song down yonder.

    Lol a walking dream-state :p

If i find time to educate myself about plants, I will, because it's a very interesting subject. A dangerous subject too because some plants are similar, one is good for the digestion but it's cousin in the same family will almost kill you if you eat it.

But nonetheless, a very interesting topic. I keep the books name. (I actally have a few plants books but not one specialized on the psychotropic effects, unfortunately)

If you have, or develop, a serious interest in psychotropic plants, and or other ethnobotanicals, I'm actually one of the limited experts in North America on the subject - having worked alongside such folk as Lester Grinspoon and Alex Shulgin.

So ask away! It is a very fascinating subject with much to be done in the waiting-wings. There are many applications for these things that we are afraid of under the guise of "War On Drugs!" But if it wasn't for such molecules, who knows if we'd ever have discovered the double-nucleux of DNA. Seriously!

    trans:

    Thank you, Alex.

I have found a 'bug' to report. The 0.90.15828 installed and started fine. But when I 'clicked' on the 'Configuration' tab, the program crashed. I waited a few minutes and re-started it. It loaded fine. But, again, the 'Configuration' tab, it crashed again.

I then re-started my computer, and started the 0.90.0.15828 again. It, again, started-up fine. But when I tried loading the Satellites, the program crashed again.

So I'll roll-back to the 0.90.0.15814 'beta' I was running. I've had no problems with the 0.90.0.15814 version, or any other 'beta' in the preceding 'beta's' I've been running up until now with the 0.90.0.15828.

Thank you for all the fine work and please pass my 'thanks' on to the rest of your team.

    Dave

    Update:

    G. Zotti - one of the Development-Team - jumped right on it. Confirmed the 'bug.' and said he'll have it all good by next week's 'beta' release.

    So all shall be fine!

    Thank's Alex and all!

    My Goodness, Alex!

Don't you people ever sleep? That was fast! I stand amazed.

I've downloaded and installed 0.90.0.15831 without any issues. And I've tested many controls and settings without any problems whatsoever. Using the Config. tab I updated Satellites and Exoplanets. All went smooth as silk. Everything is working so far.

As the saying goes: No News is Good News. So if you don't hear from me through the regular channels, all continues to be working well. I thank you and your team.

I'm leaving a screenshot of .15831 running with Satellites and Exoplanets loaded.

    Thank you again!

Thanks for the notice of the .17 update. I loaded it on my Windows 10 machine. Comes up but that is about all I have tested so far.

    Hi there Ed!

One very notable improvement (imho) is on the planets and dwarf-planets (asteroids). Zoom-in on them and you'll know loads of topographical data in the form of place names to features like mountains & valleys. These being gleaned from close-up images from recent satellites sent to study these denizens of our Solar System.

And many other additions have been loaded into 0.17.0 as well!

I call it a true winner!

    Dave

    Hey all!

Guess what? Stellarium 0.18.0 has arrived! This snuck up on me. Alex & Crew have been working around the clock, and their full-build are coming at warp-speed at this point! Wow - seems like just yesterday that the 0.17.o came in.

Hey Alex - please give my regards for this addition to your always excellent efforts! Keep up the incredible work. And by all means - take a day (or three) off and put your feet up! You all deserve it
