Manufacturer Description
The Agena 8" dovetail bar is made of extruded aluminum and black anodized. This will allow you to couple telescope tubes to a telescope mount. It will fit many CGx and EQx series mounts sold under a variety of brand names. Please check the detailed product dimensions in photo 2 above to determine compatibility with your mount or tube rings. Weight = 6.7oz / 190g.

Dovetail bar
Pros: Cons: Comments:The dovetail bar is good quality and the correct size and length. The bolts were different size for the factory holes in my 30+ year old Celestron 8. I was able to drill and tap the holes for the hex bolts included and it is now attached securely to the telescope.

I have modified it by tapping the two 1/4 inch thru holes out to 5/16 24 threaded .
Now it is coupled to my rings and my scope will fit on my alt/az tripod as well as my equatorial mount.
This dovetail has a good anodized finish over what appears to be a well machined slab of aluminum.

Pros: Cons: Comments:I have a telescope that I could not find rings for and used this dovetail bar and hose clamps from an auto store. Works great, I now can use on my vixenmount tripod and it also now goes on my tripod with standard camer adapter. I love it!

Pros: Cons: Comments:Mounted this dovetail on my Orion ED80 with rings. Now I have 5 inches of dovetail on the backend .... this let's me also mount the ED80 on my SE mount and not worry about hitting the base when heading toward the Zenith. I had a spliced dovetail arrangement before with 2 8inch dovetails but this is the way I see as the best.

Pros: Cons: Comments:I recently bought a used 6" f/8 refractor complete with rings and a Losmandy plate; but I needed a different type, the vixen dovetail to mount the OTA on my CG5. Agena sold this one, postpaid, at a wonderfully low price, and while the plate isn't quite the same as a true Vixen dovetail, it's close enough and worked fine.

Comments:This dovetail bar is sized to handle up to an 6 inch tube about 4 foot long. Any bigger creates some amount of "play", movement, from tube torque.

Cons: Comments:I have been using this product with my 80mm apo refractor along with the tube rings I purchased from Agena. It does the job well and what can you say about a dovetail plate as long as it does the job? The length of the plate I chose is a bonus as it helps me find accurate balance for the scope depending on whether I am observing or trying to take pictures with my dslr camera at prime focus.

Cons: Comments:I got this for my Celestron C8 ota. The fit was perfect, removed screws on front and rear of the cell housing and mount the dovetail bar on the bottom of the ota. The only thing that was a problem was the screws were not long enough, went to hardware store, done.

Cons: Comments:I picked up a used Orion 100mm achromat. The included dovetail bar was too narrow to fit correctly in both my EQ3 and Astronomics Voyager mounts. In order to attach the dovetail bar with the hardware I had on hand I countersunk the 2 mounting holes I used. I could have just ordered some longer screws instead, but was in a hurry. From what I can tell, this is pretty much a universal bar that should fit many scopes.

Cons: Comments:The best thing was that its size matched the tube length, despite other C8 users who claimed a 16" length. Not at all, at 13" it fits like a glove :) It holds the OTA as it should and allowed me to use the telescope on my EQ5 mount (it originally had a Losmandy dovetail plate), with a little help from 2 extra aluminum blocks I made for it. It's slightly bent on its axis, but overall, it does its job nicely. Thanks Agena!
