Product Info
Manufacturer Description
This is a rigid slow-motion control stalk for manual control of your mount's RA or Dec axis. The cable is 6.5" long and the end shaft has a 0.24" (6mm) bore. If your Antares, Celestron, Orion, Vixen or other mount has a knob or short stalk for slow motion control on either axis, then you can replace it with this control stalk for more convenient control of the slow motion function. Just remove the existing part (knob/short stalk), slide this longer stalk on to the slow motion shaft, tighten the locking screw (no tools required) and you are good to go. Sold individually or in pairs.
Important Note: Be sure to measure the diameter of your mount's shaft before you order this item. Some mounts have a larger 8mm shaft, and this item will not work with those.

Excellent product
Pros: Cons: Comments:I needed to reach the slow motion controls for a 127mm f/9.5 scope on a SkyTee2 alt-az mount, and got two of these 13in cables. Items arrived quickly, installed in 30sec, and has been working perfectly.

Jun 13, 2019Works with some modification
Pros: Cons: Comments:I was able to drill this out to fit a Tasco 10TE mount, which has a shaft larger than 6mm. The end has plenty of metal to take out another mm, and the lock screw still has enough thread to work well.

Nov 25, 2018Slo Mo Cable with Rosette Handle
Pros: Cons: Comments:Perfect fit but miss having the larger, fist size handles. Rosette is okay but just not as functional for arthritic hands.

Aug 10, 20186.5" Handles
Pros: Cons: Comments:Another review mentioned that the screws were too long for Vixen PortaMount. I easily replaced them with hex screws from the hardware store and they work great. A good replacement for the original plastic handles from Vixen.

May 22, 2018Well Made, But One Major Caveat ...
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is a well made product, but beware that due to the excessive length of the knurled portion of the set screw, there may be some clearance issues. These do not work on a Vixen Porta II mount due to the lack of clearance between the set screw and the mount housing. In my case, I ended up using them on an older Vixen alt-az mount without any issues. Make sure that you have at least 3/8" clearance between the slow motion shaft and any obstruction on the mount for which you may be considering purchasing these handles.

Apr 19, 2018Not bad
Pros: Cons: Comments:The extension stalk works and fits fine, the quality is just ok.... I think the knob itself is a little short in length. I prefer the knob that came with my twilight 1 alt Mount. That one is a little easier to use with gloves.

Sep 28, 2017Manual Slow motion Cables
Pros: Cons: Comments:Good replacements for manual slow motion cables for many older Japanese and other Asian manual drive equatorial and alt-azimuth mounts including older Vixen and Celestron manual drive mounts.

Sep 6, 2017good replacement cables
Pros: Cons: Comments:These are good quality replacement cables for any telescope with 6mm slow motion shafts. Well made and fairly stiff.

Feb 26, 2017Tripod slow motion stalks
Pros: Cons: Comments:These are an excellent item to add to your tripod accessories. A lot handier than reaching forward to grab hold of the knob especially in the dark I highly recommend these

Jan 3, 2017Good cables
Pros: Cons: Comments:Sturdy, functional. Easy replacement for the too-short cables on my Orion 90EQ. Very glad to find these at a reasonable price. Thank you, Agena!

Dec 26, 2016Slo-mo control wand
Pros: Cons: Comments:It fits the base studs on my Vixen Porta II and works as intended. Little more to say about this simple piece of gear.

Dec 24, 2016Agena flexible slow motion cable
Pros: Cons: Comments:They work as advertised. If you are in the market for slow motion cables these are worth consideration.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 24, 2016Could Be a Little Sturdier
Pros: Cons: Comments:The cable is a little on the flimsy side. The one I lost was a little thicker and I felt better quality. But it gets the job done; the slo-mo function cannot be done without a cable.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 24, 2016I'M IN CONTROL AGAIN
Pros: Cons: Comments:Bought a nice used telescope, but the control stalks had been replaced with small knobs. These slo-MO cables worked perfectly to make tracking control easy.

Sep 30, 2016A cut above
Pros:Lightweight,Strong Construction,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:These are a better quality then the ones that usually come with telescopes. Good quality.

Jan 23, 2016Slow Motion Cables
Pros:Lightweight,Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I had two slow motion control cables on my telescope that for some reason had broken. I tried reinforcing and taping, but without good results. I had tried several places over the years to find replacements and was not successful until I found this source. It was just what I needed and they work perfectly as replacements.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Oct 9, 2015Flexible???
Pros: Cons: Comments:I am befuddled by the high reviews here! The quality of these are laughable and the cost of materials and labor could not be more than 50 cents. It is almost a sin to put this on my vintage Vixen Super Polaris EQ mount. But, with some black electrical tape around the cheap crimped metal ends, they look OK. They do function so I gave them 2 stars. I reckon that "flexible" can be loosely defined. I'm glad I bought the shorter ones. The longer ones would look like hair licks. I'm just sayin'.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? NoThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 25, 2015Works as expected
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction,No Fuss
Cons:None
Comments:What can I say? Slow motion cables are perfect if they don't slip on the mount posts, and don't break. By that definition, these are the most perfect cables available. They do their job, end of story.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I have these on a Celestron CG4, and I prefer them to the motors Celestron provides. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 20, 2015A useful accessory to older mounts
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons:A Bit Stiff
Comments:Inexpensive and solidly constructed. The flex cable is a bit stiffer than I would prefer, but still usable. The 6mm bore fits many telescope mounts and can be easily bored/drilled to 1/4" if needed.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 17, 2014Fine adjustments while at the eyepiece
Pros:Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:These controls help with guiding the telescope. Using these controls allows better control of small movements.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 30, 2013A Perfect Replacement
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons: Comments:These were the perfect replacement for parts lost on my current telescope. They fit well, worked as advetised and were acquired at a great price, after looking at other vendors.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 24, 2013Good Cables...only cables around
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:Got the cables within days of purchasing which is always great. The quality is of okay construction, but I was expecting this. It is these or some Vixen ones that are like twice the price.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
They work great and really help me slew my newtonian scope, since it is hard to reach around that big 'ol tube. I got a pair of the 6.5" and 9.5" for my 8" newtonian reflect with german mount. I might cut the 9.5 to a 6.5 and have both mounted on my declination axis.
Only con is that the screws are too tall and hit my mount in one area. So I just grinded them down, or you can buy new screws for like $0.50 at the store.
Great cables for the price, might need new tighening screws though depending on scope/mount.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 22, 2013Awesome cables!
Pros:Flexible,Lightweight,Sturdy,Easy to Use
Cons:None
Comments:These cables were even better than the cables that came with my son's telescope. I will recommend Agena whenever I can and I will use Agena first for all of my Astronomy needs. THANKS!!!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 22, 20136.5" cable
Pros:Compact,Strong Construction
Cons:Could Be Easier To Attach
Comments:I bought these to substitute for the longer controls that came standard on my StarGuy version of the Vixen Porta II mount. The long ones are fine for a longer telescope tube, but I needed something shorter for use with my short tube Lunt 60 Solar scope.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The shorter controls are definitely easier to use, but the only thing I would change is the small thumb screws that make it really difficult to tighten the control securely to the mount.
This is a minor issue since it's easy enough to buy a couple of replacements at the local hardware store.
Overall, these slow motion controls are great and the price is right. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 8, 2013Decent for the cost
Pros: Cons: Comments:These are OK for the cost. I had to drill and pin the ends to keep them from slipping. These were purchase as a replacement at about half the cost of the originals. These are functional after the mod, but not the same quality as the Vixen ones I replaced (lost).
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Sep 21, 2012Pretty Good
Pros:Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:On one the cover was too short showing the metal cable on both ends. On another, the head of the set screw was too long, thus hitting the head of the Porta mount and making it impossible to use.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 3, 2012Excellent Slow Motion Cable
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Convenient
Cons:None
Comments:My cable was another brand and came apart on the flexible shaft. I replaced it with the Agena flexible slow motion cable which appears to be of quality construction and stronger built at a reasonable price. Very satisfied and shipping was quick. Agena provides excellent products and service.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 29, 2012Slow Motion Knobs
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Lightweight,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:It works... just like Vixen slo mo knobs for Porta mount like tripods...for $9 vs $50 like Vixen charges.. Buught and donated pair to local Observatory for Vixen Tripod I also donated for refractor.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 29, 2012Slo-mo cable headquarters
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:There don't seem to be many places to buy replacement slo-mo cables. You guys came through for me once again.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 5, 2012Just what I needed!
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight,The perfect length,Strong Construction,Great flexibility
Cons: Comments:The telescope I bought came with unbelievably short slow motion cables. So short and stiff there was practically no cable! When I told this to the cutomer service rep he balked and said they should be fine. They had no replacement because they are all that short. The R.A. one was always blocking the OTA, and I could not bend it at all and it was so short I almost injured myself by overextending my arm. Then I found your website, ordered one cable (I used the stock R.A. one I got for the Dec part, it's longer and a good length for that)got it very promptly and it works like a charm. Good price too. Thank you!

Feb 24, 2012Slow motion controls
Pros:Accurate,Compact,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:Last year I purchased an EQ-1 mount to work with my PST solar scope, but when I got home my controls were gone. I checked with Orion but they don't sell parts like that. Other controls that I found were too expensive. But Agena had the controls in various sizes and at a very good price. Service was excellent and I was very pleased with the quality.

May 30, 2011Agena Flexible Slow Motion Cable
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate,Compact
Cons: Comments:I use the cable for my astronomy tripod and it is an exact copy of the original equipment.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 28, 2011A cable that is really a cable!
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Unlike other sites that call plastic slow motion controls"cables", these really are spring cables in a plastic sheath. I had plastic ones from another vendor that broke in the cold. These are quality items.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 15, 2011Very High Quality
Pros:Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:Bought these to replace the very poor quality knobs that come with a Vixen mini porta mount. Quality of these cables exceeded my expectations (especially for the price). Now I'm very happy with my Vixen mini-porta. I bought the 11.5 inch version by the way.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 26, 2010Slow Motion Cables
Pros:Accurate
Cons: Comments:I needed the longest cables so I could reach around my meter long tube of my 4.7" refractor.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
These cables are sturdy and allow me to stay at the eyepiece as I manually keep the objects in the field of view of my choice. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Nov 12, 2009Very solid, well made
Pros:Strong Construction
Cons:None
Comments:I used these to replace the poor quality slow motion controls on a Vixen mini portamount. These were MUCH better quality than they appeared in the pictures. Very heavy duty, solidly made, good construction. Fairly stiff which is what you want in these. You just need enough flexibility to help isolate vibrations from your hands getting into the mount. These do the trick.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
