Manufacturer Description
Agena's new Multi-Target Reflex Red Dot Finder is a big improvement over the typical plastic red dot finder found on many telescopes. It is waterproof and shockproof and is well suited for astronomy, bird watching, and other daytime or nighttime applications. This reticle finder has a tubeless design with a 22mm x 33mm reflex lens aperture, providing a wide field of view with unlimited eye relief. The finder features a durable and attractive, black anodized, all aluminum construction.
A variable brightness red LED projects four different target patterns at the flick of a switch (dot, crosshair, crosshair with dot, and circle with dot). The reticle can be adjusted in brightness in seven increments for practically any application (including daylight use) to suit your preference. It is powered by one 3V lithium battery (CR2032 or equivalent) which is also included. The battery will last for a long time due to the finder's efficient low power consumption design.
The optics are coated for improved transmission (however, a fainter double or reflected image of the reticle pattern is commonly seen in darker conditions depending on the pattern and brightness level selected). A rubber dust cap for the reflex lens is also included. After mounting the finder on your telescope, you can adjust it in elevation (altitude) and azimuth (left-right) to align it with your telescope. An allen wrench is required for this (included), so the finder alignment cannot be upset inadvertently once it is set.
The Agena MRRF is available with with two mounting options. This model includes a type B1 mounting stalk (bracket) and a deluxe Vixen / Synta type cross-slot XFURB dovetail base as shown in the product photos. The finder has a quick release fitting which allows you to replace the finder in the same position between viewing sessions, saving a lot of time re-aligning. Perpendicular to the telescope's optical axis, the included base can be used with mounting hole spacings ranging from 10mm - 29mm (0.39" - 1.14") if you use 5mm mounting screws. Note that this spacing is not sufficient to be used on 8" and larger SCT telescopes. For use with SCT telescopes, you will need to replace the XFURB base with the larger SCTFURB base (sold separately). However, your finder may need to be realigned later if used with / removed from the SCT base.
Specifications:
- Finder weight: 4.1oz (115gm)
- Height of finder with stalk and base: 4.25" (108mm)
- Finder length: 3.2" (82mm)
- Finder magnification: 1x
- Field of view: 9.0 degrees (15.7m @ 100m)
- Battery: One CR2032 or equivalent (included)

Works very well for this amateur.
Pros: Cons: Comments:Base fit fastened to Celestron C6 perfectly.

Feb 11, 2019Agena mul i-reticle red dot finder
Pros: Cons: Comments:Works as advertised. For locating stuff in the night sky, use at lowest setting. Easy to align with an allen key, and onc aligned it stays aligned. The attchment base is standard and hold the unit securely.

Nov 2, 2018Basic Reflex Sight
Pros: Cons: Comments:Does a great job and attached easily to the GSO Crayford focuser on my wife's previously finder-deprived Skywatcher 120 F5 achro. Easy to align and adjusts dim enough for astronomical use. Performance is really not far short of the TeleVue Starbeam on my scope.

Sep 19, 2018Bright
Pros: Cons: Comments:Bought this for my refractor, as I have one on my RC.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This one is much brighter to the point that it washes out the point of view.
Tried all the settings and even the lowest is too bright.
It looks like the same one on my RC which is great , but not sure what the difference is.
Hoping that it might dim somewhat after it's been used for a while. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 21, 2018Agena red dte
Pros: Cons: Comments:Overall very good. The exception being it being too bright for dark sky use but t I was able to do a little surgery and place a narrow strip of darkly exposed B&W film between the LED and the pinhole. So much more appropriate now for astronomers. The build quality is excellent and the front window is transparent enough to not hide too many stars. The Allen adjustments are no problem for me.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This is a solid compact unit. The various reticles may be handy for some but I stick to the dot. The dovetail base is of course unique so ymmv on how it fits your setup.
Why can’t there be a real standard here
Overall a good buy if your willing to mod it a bit....RodThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 11, 2018I feel like 007 whenever I use this finder!!
Pros: Cons: Comments:I modified an Explore Scientific scope mount to allow this finder to be attached to my 80mm refractor telescope. I recently added a "Baader 2" 90° Erecting Amici Prism Diagonal" to my grab and go set up. So I can use the scope for both celestial and terrestrial viewing.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
It has a seven different brightness settings which is really convenient. The brighter settings are bright enough to make it very useful during the day. the dim setting help preserve your night vision when viewing the stars. There's also four different target patterns. My favorite is the "crosshair with dot", since it leaves the center section open. It's hard to see your target when it is covered by a dot or the intersection of two cross hairs.
This is a great finder and you'll feel so cool using it!!This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 11, 2018Agena multi-reticle red-dot finder
Pros: Cons: Comments:Well built--all metal--with strong (but variable, in 7 steps) light output. Once aligned with the OTA, it stays that way. It has several reticles to choose from but, unfortunately, none that consist of only a circle, which would be most helpful to frame dim objects. I end up using mainly the single red dot.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 30, 2017High quality!
Pros: Cons: Comments:This reflex finder is a high quality product. It fits my AT 60 ED nicely. Since I also install same base on my other telescopes, it is very easy for me to use it on different scopes.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 6, 2017Great RedDot Finder
Pros: Cons: Comments:Really high quality construction and functionality. It's a shame they didn't feel like including some instructions about where the battery compartment was, what all the dials and levers were for. Really !
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 7, 2017A new Direction
Pros: Cons: Comments:This finder is remarkable! It features 4 different, or is it 5 different reticles for helping you find your target. It has about 8 different brightness settings too. IT has an up-down, left-right targeting screws that are fool proof and will not be reset if you handle the finder to rough.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I like how simplistic this finder is, however, after using it multiple times, I find the lowest brightness setting on the targeting reticle it still too bright to show even the faintest of stars, so I opt to use just the dot and sometimes the dot in the ring.
This thing is heavy, made of metal, this will last a lifetime. It does not have a catch on the dovetail, so careful placing in the finder shoe is critical. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 14, 2017Solid
Pros: Cons: Comments:A very good red-dot 1x finderscope. Solid metal construction and yes, when it says it fits a Vixen/Synta style dovetail mount, that does include the trapezoidal slot that holds the Celestron 6x30 finderscope that came with my Omni XLT 120 refractor. It slid in perfectly and sits securely. Alignment is very easy and secure with included hex wrench. I prefer this kind of finder, and plan to keep it mounted permanently.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Two slight detractions.
1. Unlike the bottom-of-the-line red-dot that came with my first basic reflector, this one suffers from a glare issue. Unless at the very dimmest setting, there is significant light bleed and distracting ghosting with all reticle choices. (By the bye, these choices are probably not necessary.) Granted, most of the time nighttime viewing only needs settings 1 or 2. Still, my old cheap plastic one didn't suffer from glare or ghosting.
2. Also, why not replace the click settings with a continuous dial? Perhaps this was designed so as to avoid accidental changes, but that's hardly a bother.
Overall, yes, I like and recommend this piece and consider it a keeper. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 9, 2017Great Red "Dot" style finder
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is a nice finder for a very nice price. I really like the feature of being able to select different projections as sometimes I find the simple red "dot" to not be ideal for dimmer objects.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I gave it only 4 stars due to having to use Allen Wrenches to perform alignment (instead of plastic dials or knobs as on some other similar finders). While it not something that hopefully would need to be repeated frequently, if alignment was needed to be performed in the dark it would be cumbersome. At least Agena includes the wrenches. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 24, 2016Well Built and Works Well
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use
Cons:None
Comments:Great value for the money! It works very well and has multiple reticles and brightness levels. Easy to adjust.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 23, 2016High-quality finder
Pros:Accurate,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This is a great finder at a reasonable price. I this finder for initial alignment of my portable imaging setup. Initial alignment now takes less than a minute, so I have more time for imaging and spend less time on the frustrating process of finding my alignment star.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I highly recommend this product. It is well constructed and functions exactly as it should. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 26, 2015Excellent reflex finder and awesome service (as always)
Pros:Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This finder is well constructed and works perfectly for telescope alignment. I have one of these for each of my scopes!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 12, 2015Great Finder
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Accurate,Lightweight,Daytime Use,Compact
Cons:Bright For Night Use
Comments:I needed a finder for my spotting scope which I also use for astronomy. The red dot finder that came with the scope was not bright enough for daytime use. This finder is great in the daytime and very accurate for finding night objects, as well. The only limitation is that the brightness will sometimes obscure fainter objects.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 4, 2015Doesn't hurt to have two
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Accurate,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:The all metal construction is solid and operation is smooth. Can't beat the quality
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 28, 2014Does what it is supposed to do.
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate,Easy to Use,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Compact
Cons: Comments:Other reviews stated that the LED light was too brght and masked the star you were trying to align with but I did not find this to be true. The finder locates in its saddle consistently and repeats its precision location every time. I was very happy about that as it speeds up my alignment process with my mount. A cover is included to protect the lens which is a good idea. Overall, an excellent product that is made like a tank.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 6, 2014Probably the best option for alignment
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Easy to Use
Cons:Heavy
Comments:Using GOTO mounts, my finders only serve one single purpose: Alignment
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
That's where red-dot comes handy, there's no need for a bulky 9X50 finderscope when you align on the most usual and brightest stars.
The illumination is rather strong, and will be mainly used on the first level, other settings are actually not useful for an astronomical use.
I recommend to paint a white dot on the off position, so you can turn it off easily in the night.
It is to be noted that such a large glass window is quite quickly the victim of dew. I recommend to put the rubber hood back on as soon as you're aligned. And only remove it when you need the finder.
If you need it all night long, you will probably need the dedicated Kendrick heater.
Aligment system is really precise and strong, but has its limits in settings.
This made it unsuitable for use on my GSO/Astro-tech RC6 where the base is mounted on a slightly tilted surface. That was solved by machining the provided vixen-like shoe.
The provided vixen-like shoe is quite light easily prone to bend. You won't want to put excessive tension when fixing it to your scope, and even more important won't want to tie the finder too firmly with the two thumbscrews. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 6, 2014Best dot finder under $100
Pros:Compact,Lightweight,Strong Construction,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Dumbfounded.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This thing drips quality. All metal construction. Allen wrench included for adjustments. Simple as sin installation. 7 brightness levels. 4 dot profiles.
For astronomical use I use the dot pattern at its dimmest setting. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 1, 2014Works excellent on my refractor
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons:Heavy
Comments:I use it on my WO ZS71ED and it works pretty good. After collimating it with the OTA, the object on the dot is dead centered in the FOV. The only downside of this tool is that the reticle appears too bright even at the dimmest setting, thus I suggest to use it with both eyes open.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 26, 2014A good finder, but too bright for astro
Pros:Solid build,Strong Construction,Compact,Accurate
Cons:Light Too Bright
Comments:All the light levels in this finder will be too bright for Astronomy use. Seems the settings are mainly for daylight use, like for spotting scopes.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
One can modify the series resistors though to dim it for star gazing purposes if you have basic tinkering and electrical skills. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 25, 2014Needs very little realignment - solid.
Pros:Easy to Use,Stable,Compact,Accurate,Strong Construction,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:After numerous sessions, I have not had to realign.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 28, 2013Beautifully constructed finder
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Beautifully constructed finder.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
A little bit too bright on lowest setting.
Solid construction.
Holds adjustments well.
A definite improvement over most red dot finders supplied with scopes. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 28, 2013Adjustable
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons:None
Comments:I use this on my SCT telescope. Holds its alignment when it's removed and replaced. Nice and bright with various brightness settings. Also so has different reticles

May 30, 2013Great wide field finder
Pros:Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Compact,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I purchased this to use as a finder for my main imaging telescope. I use it solely to locate stars when doing my initial alignment and it is perfect for this purpose. If I slew to a star and the telescope is off, this finder makes it very easy to see which way I need to move the scope.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Easy to use and quality construction.
I wish I would have purchased it long ago. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Feb 8, 2013I would buy this product again and again
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Compact
Cons: Comments:On a 12 inch dob. Took the finder scope off and installed one of these. Much easier to find objects quickly.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 14, 2012Excellent Quality!
Pros:Accurate,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Compact,Strong Construction
Cons:Reticle A Bit Too Bright
Comments:I bought two of these finders - one for my large 120mm refractor and another for an 80mm guide scope piggybacked on the bigger scope. At the price buying two was not a problem. I have been amazed by the quality - the finder appears to be machined from billet aluminum and very close to military specs. The 1X optics are flawlessly coated and a fitted rubber cover is effective in keeping them that way.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Since I already had the mounting shoes on my scope's focusers installation was easy. Better yet, the two alignment setscrews were easily adjusted even in the dark with the aid of a small red flashlight and the supplied Allen wrench. Once the finder is aligned to the scope using a bright star, it is extremely accurate and far better than a traditional finder scope. I am able to do my mount's alignment routines nearly twice as fast as before.
My only complaint is that the reticle's light is a bit too bright even at the lowest setting. Unless the object you're sighting on is very bright, it will get lost in the red light's brightness. I've found that I can adapt to this by using the dot reticle since it is roughly the size of the stars I use to align. The other reticles just override the object and you cannot tell if the object is exactly centered. This brightness may be appropriate for non-astronomical (daytime) uses, however.
Overall, this is an excellent accessory that does the job it is intended to do very accurately. I highly recommend it.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 21, 2012Super Helpful!
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate,Compact,Quality Lenses,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:I have one on each of my 3 OTAs. Since I don't have a permanent setup I have to align my mount each night. This has made centering the stars in my CCD or eyepiece (depending on what I'm doing that evening) much quicker. The only thing I don't like is the brightness. This was obviously designed for daylight use because even the "dimmest" setting is still very bright at night. All but the brightest stars get lost when next too it. Thankfully, for aligning, I'm only using the brightest stars.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 19, 2011Worth its weight in Gold!
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Great little unit that makes tracking fast moving objects like aircraft at altitude easy and general Astronomy a joy.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Able to be used in bright daylight with its variable intensity led so you will have no worries using it terrestrially for birdwatching (whether they be two legged or the ones with feathers), nature study or whatever - just makes using any high powered scope so much easier! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 18, 2011Just like name brand, without the Swan
Pros:Fits perfectly on ZS80II,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Bargain priced,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:Great reflex finder convienent size and a perfect match for my WO ZS 80II APO, also fit my AT66 APO
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I like the multi reticle giving you a choice of dots and bulls eyes. I'm very glad I bought it.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Jun 6, 2011I can find things in the sky now!
Pros:Easy to use,Strong Construction,Accurate,Compact
Cons: Comments:I had so much trouble finding things with only a 6X30 straight through finder, but with the multi-reticle reflex finder I KNOW just where my scope is pointed. As it has zero power, I never get lost in a sea of previously unnoticed stars like I did with my traditional finder. Moreover, it's smaller than some reflex finders (which makes it perfect for my modest little refractor) and, with its mostly metal construction, more durable than others.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I absolutely love it.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
