Note that the use of any optical element like barlows and focal reducers changes the focus point of your telescope, requiring additional in-focus or out-focus travel. The exact amount of focus travel required will depend on the optics and mechanics of your specific set-up (telescope, diagonal (if used), barlow, and eyepiece). Hence, be aware that you may not be able to reach focus with all eyepieces or in all configurations with a given barlow.

A definite keeper...
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Accurate,Compact,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:With a 6" f/5 Newtonian, and an average ocular, I witnessed an instance of snap-to focussing with this barlow, and for the first time with any of my telescopes, including a Takahahsi FS-102. It's definitely a keeper!

Aug 5, 2009x3 barlow
Pros:Solid construction; Great views; So far can't see how it can get much better
Cons:None that I've encountered
Comments:I picked up this barlow at a very cheap price. I think it works very well, although I have not compared it to any other barlow. I have used it with my 12mm T4 Nagler giving me x300 mag, which gave me great views of Jupiter and Saturn, and even some DSOs. Solidly made fit and finish.

Nov 19, 2008The Antares UB3S Achromatic Barlow
Pros:Reasonable price,Decent Barlow
Cons:The GSO is less expensive,Others may be better
Comments:The Antares UB3S Barlow is a well constructed 3.15 inch (80mm) long 1.25 inch barlow. It has green coatings on its lenses with a higher level of reflection, however, than the GSO Barlows. It requires about 5 mm out focus with my eyepieces just the opposite of my Meade 2x barlow whereas my 2x GSO is nearly par focal.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Like my other barlows, it cleans up the edges of inexpensive wide field eyepieces while increasing power. I bought it because at the time, it was one of the least expensive 3x quality barlows available and could make a good low power plossl that I had with good eye relief into a high (220X-230X) power eyepiece. You cannot expect to unscrew the bottom of this barlow and attach it directly to an eyepiece like you can a GSO. It provides sharp views, but from what I have read not as sharp as Televue barlows and comparing it to my GSO and Meade 2X, my feeling is that it is of similar quality.
Barlows like this are simple and other than coatings and lens polishing, it is hard to find differences anymore. When looking at the Trapezium in Orion for example, I noticed both the stars and spaces between them, were 3X larger. A 3X higher powered eyepiece seemed to have more pinpoint stars about twice the size of the same stars in the eyepiece I had just barlowed. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
