Manufacturer Description
Find it fast! Antares 50mm finders will let you see and target faint objects like globular clusters without star charts, even near city limits. Standard features include multicoated objective lens, eyepiece with rubber eyeshield, 52 degree apparent field, internal baffling, dust caps and focusable wire reticle.
Note that focusing this finder is achieved either by (1) sliding the diagonal out of the body if required (easily done via an allen set-screw on the underside of the tube) and/or (2) sliding the reticle eyepiece up or down within the diagonal.
Available in a choice of three colors to match your telescope. 50mm finder bracket is not included and can be purchased separately.

Good replacement for finder on LX90
Pros: Cons: Comments:I used this Antares finder (blue) to replace the straight through finder on my LX90. I was able to use the LX90 mounting bracket. To do this I removed the diagonal on the Antares (threaded on) and slipped it in to the bracket on the LX90. Then turned the diagonal back in and tightened the finder in place with the adjustment screws on the LX90 bracket. The alignment with the telescope took a few minutes because the field of view is smaller than the original straight through FS. But once aligned it does the job. I have used it 4 - 5 times since installing and I like it. No more crooked neck and the illuminated reticle makes it easy to do a telescope alignment after dark. Tips: Don't remove the dew cover on the FS when attempting to get it into a bracket ... the lens falls out. It takes some getting used to the FOV after using the Meade FS.

Aug 15, 2014Excellent Upgrade
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This was an upgrade for the stock finder shipped with my Explore Scientific AR152 achro refractor. The RACI orientation combined with the illuminated reticle is an excellent package, especially as an upgrade from straight-through finders. This also has a very useful double crosshair reticle, making centering a star much more precise. Construction is solid with a focuseable objective, although a bit crude there. The only feature truly lacking on this instrument that I would have like is the ability to rotate the diagonal to the most comfortable viewing location (hence the four stars). Otherwise, very good for the price. The Agena Customer Service dept. was very helpful in determining that this unit would fit in the mounting rings of my AR152. Very satisfiied.

Feb 9, 2014Ideal match for my refractor
Pros:Accurate,Lightweight,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:This was the second Antares finder of the same type that I purchased; it was meant to replace a straight-through finder that came with my refractor. The Antares finder is very adequate for its intended purpose. I found the illuminated crosshairs to be too bright even at the lowest setting of the illuminator's rheostat, and so I punched out 1/4-inch OD discs out of a piece of dark red plastic and inserted the two of them between the illuminator unit and the body of the finder's eyepiece. Perfection!
