Astro-Tech 80ED
Pros:No slop in focuser; 11:1 dual speed focuser; decent optics
Cons:Not a typical provision for finder; I wish the focuser tube was threaded
Comments:This scope does a nice job for the price. I actually have only imaged with it and I must say I am impressed. I like the graduated focuser tube since it helps focusing between non-parfocal filters. The stars are bloated slightly in the blue channel and a little difficult to reduce when processing. Overall a nice scope and built well. I could not attach my red dot finder in a normal fashion. Had to remove shoe and rotate focuser tube to use the screw holes and make my own shoe to accept red dot finder.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesJan 4, 2008The amazing little giant!
Pros:Uses a SCT visual back on focuser. Comes in 8 colors.
Cons:None that I can find.
Comments:This scope is listed as an APO and, at least in mine, it lives up to that claim, even though it's a doublet. Even on the Moon and Venus, no false color was observed. Takes up to 150x on good nights, although I usually don't go much past 120x. Excellent spotting scope, also. Dual speed crayford focuser very smooth. Focuser assembly rotatable. Very wide, flat field.
