Great Stuff
Pros: Cons: Comments:This Baader filter paper comes with instructions on how to make solar filter lenses for telescopes and binoculars. It works very well. This is the same high quality OD 5.0 filter rating that Baader is know for providing.

Sep 15, 2017much needed
Pros: Cons: Comments:I received this film after searching awhile. I needed to make some lense caps for viewing the Eclipse. Worked perfectly and received it when they said I would. Just in time.

Sep 13, 2017Perfect for DIY Solar Filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:I was able to order and have this delivered in time for the August 2017 solar eclipse. I made a great DIY solar filter for my DSLR and got some great shots. Great product!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 10, 2017An excellent service and delivery of your product, thank you.
Pros: Cons: Comments:A Solar safety film sheet is a very good product. I made various filter sizes for my photo/video equipment, it works fine - in sunny days. Guess, on Solar Eclipse day, skies were dark cloudy and no fun at all. Next time!!

Sep 6, 2017Best Choice of Solar Film for 2017 Total Eclipse
Pros: Cons: Comments:I was amazed at just how "Clear & Defined" my Images were of, "The Total Eclipse & Corona". This was my 1st ever exposure to this "Amazing Field of Photography" and it wont be the Last! Thank You for a Great and "SAFE" Product. (There's so much Crap out there!)

Sep 4, 2017Best Solar Film
Pros: Cons: Comments:I've used this Baader film and the film from Thousand Oaks. I much prefer this Baader film.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The film from Thousand Oaks has a matte finish on one side that diffuses the light slightly, which makes it impossible to get a razor sharp focus on the sun. The edge of the sun looks soft and sunspot detail is lost.
This Baader film has a very small UV leak (0.0001, or 0.01%) around 360 nm, which is why it should be used with glass, like a camera lens, since glass attenuates UV.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 31, 2017Worked great for the eclipse!
Pros: Cons: Comments:Thank you!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This product worked out great for making solar filters that were used in photographing the total solar eclipse of August 18th, 2017.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 31, 2017Great for eclipse photography!
Pros: Cons: Comments:Was able to use this for great shots of the entire 4 hours of the eclipse. Just remember to remove it for totality if you're at 100% eclipse!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 30, 2017Nice product,glue well though.
Pros: Cons: Comments:This worked great for the eclipse -- both on telescope and telephoto lens. Be sure to glue it well to whatever mount you make though. I had a thin rim of material glued that came loose it the wind. I used super glue to reinforce it though, and all was good.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 29, 2017excellent filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:Got great results with eclipse photos. Filter material shows natural color of Sun. I made my own lens filters using this material.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 28, 2017Baader AstroSolar Visual Solar Filter Film (ND 5)
Pros: Cons: Comments:I got this 8"x10" film, it was best solution I can have, I made out of two covers for two 77mm lenses, one glasses, and one and a half binoculars ( I could have make two binoculars if I plan better). This product is good!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 28, 20172017 Eclipse
Pros: Cons: Comments:Excellent product. Worked great. Used it for the 2017 total solar eclipse for full aperature viewing with telescope and cameras. I liked the natural white color of the sun when viewing.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 28, 2017Excellent value, and prompt service
Pros: Cons: Comments:I'm extremely happy with this. Everyone was chasing glasses, and expensive solar filters for cameras, and all I had to buy was one sheet of filter. I made a filter for my binoculars, which was an absolute hit at the park where we watched the eclipse. I also made filters for two cameras, and I still have half the sheet left over for 2024.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 27, 2017Great filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:Tough, easy to work with, fairly neutral in color. Blocks slightly more green than other wavelengths, not noticeable by eye but shows up in pictures. Expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 26, 2017A bit of a fiasco making filters.
Pros: Cons: Comments:This Baader Solar Film works well. The sun is off-white/bluish, which I guess is okay. Altogether, making filters from this film costs probably a little less than half the cost of glass filters, keeping in mind that you will need other materials than just the film. If you destroy too many filters in the process of making them, this film could cost more than buying glass filters.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This solar film is a bit delicate, so apparently not likely to be long lasting. The filters you make must be thoroughly checked before each use to make sure they haven't been damaged. If damage goes unnoticed, you can easily permanently damage your eyes. The filters must be stored in their own special, soft, container that will protect them from harm.
The filters are not so easy to make. A number of unforeseen things can go wrong. I'm pretty handy and all of the filters I made for my scope, finder, and 2 pair of binoculars worked. But not as nicely or as well made as I would like. This takes practice. So, be prepared to buy more film.
One thing, I didn't want the filters to be too loose and fall off of my scope or binoculars so, I made them fit snug. Too snug. Make them a bit loose. You can easily attach little wedges inside the ring of your homemade filter so that it will fit snugly to the tube of your scope, or the barrel of the binoculars.
This film is a bit expensive to be making throw away filters. If you want permanent solar filters, but glass ones. If you don't want the extra hassle of making filters, buy glass ones.

Aug 25, 2017Worked as expected
Pros: Cons: Comments:The film is every thin an light weight, so be very careful handling it. Don't be tempted to take it outside unless mounted in a frame as even a slight breeze will make make it hard to handle. Cutting the sheet was very easy (I made frames out of white styrene). The solar images produced through the filter are white, just as the product image suggests. This was used during the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 24, 2017Worked great
Pros: Cons: Comments:Ordered for my 6in Mak-Cas for the eclipse. The included instructions of how to make a slip over filter using poster board or cardboard were easy to follow. I also had more than enough left over to make a filter for my 50mm finder/guidescope.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 23, 2017Excellent solar filter film
Pros: Cons: Comments:I am very happy with my purchase of Baader AstroSolar Visual Solar Filter Film (ND 5). I used it to make my own solar filter and took great pictures of the total solar eclipse.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 22, 2017Used fot 2017 Total Solar
Pros: Cons: Comments:Used fot 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. Instructions are easy to follow. Made filters for 4" telescope, and small binoculars. Still have some of the sheet left for a pair of binoculars or two. Item arrived as described. Good filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 22, 2017Baader AstroSolar Film worked great
Pros: Cons: Comments:My only complaint was it was a little bit difficult to handle to keep it flat. Follow the directions to cut while sandwiched and then have a flat surface to mount it to and all should be great.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 21, 2017Worked wonderfully!
Pros: Cons: Comments:The film worked wonderfully on my 600mm telephoto lens to capture the eclipse. The image was bright white, not dull yellow like the cheap eclipse glasses. Will definitely buy more for 2024.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 21, 2017Solar Eclipse
Pros: Cons: Comments:Took pictures of the Solar Eclipse. They didn't turn out the greatest, but the problem was in my iPhone mount and not the filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 18, 2017solar film purchase
Pros: Cons: Comments:The solar film works well as advertised. It is tricky to make the filters for binoculars but it is easier as I made more filters.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 10, 2017It works beautifully!
Pros: Cons: Comments:Using another person's e-mail guidance, I made a solar filter for my 13" Coulter Odyssey, and the result was excellent.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 9, 2017Baader planitarium solar filter glasses
Pros: Cons: Comments:The quality of construction of Baader's filter is excellent. Much better than the filter (using baader film) made by another company. Like the solar viewing glasses too...color is more true to life. Also Agena delivered promptly and seem to be a good company that I would use again.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 7, 2017Great solar films
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased two pieces of Baader solar filter films (size 2.5in). They were delivered promptly. With these I built a solar filter (using 2 "cells") for my 8inch Celestron Nexstar telescope. It worked very well and I am very pleased by the results.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 5, 2017Great product
Pros: Cons: Comments:Work simply as claimed. Built a solar filter for my telescope and immediately successfully tested it. Enough material for my telescope and my finder.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 25, 2017Great price
Pros: Cons: Comments:There's one or two tiny pockmarks on the films which causes refraction (halos). This is the first time I bought these, so I'm not sure if it's normal to have pockmarks on the surface of the films. Other than the pockmarks, the films work pretty well.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 24, 2017You get more than you pay for
Pros: Cons: Comments:I love this material. It is in-expensive and as far as I am concerned the Solar views using this material are second to none. The downside is that it is fragile and you need to be pretty gentle with it. So far I've used the Baader Solar Film to make filters for telescopes and binoculars/
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 23, 2017Works perfect, sun viewed in white
Pros: Cons: Comments:Very easy to work with. Seems to work great. Made homemade filters for my camera for the eclipse in August, but it has been tested with my camera already, and the pictures came out great.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 18, 2017Everything perfectly fine.
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased the foil to build a filter for my Canon DSLR. The foil works perfectly fine the shipping was fast and without complications.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 11, 2017Baader AstroSolar Visual Solar Filter Film (ND 5) - 4" (101mm) Sq
Pros: Cons: Comments:I've used Baader AstroSolar film in the past. I'm generally pleased with the quality of the product and the results I get using it. It's claimed that the film does not have to be stretched taut across an opening and the image is not adversely affected by "waves" on the surface. This seems to be true. I've been told that the image obtained with a Herschel wedge is better, but since the wedge can only be used on a refractor, I have no way of checking this. The image obtained with the Baader film seems to be as crisp as one would get, for example, of an image of the moon. One precaution in using the film is to look at the sun through the film to make sure there are no pinholes on any part of it. Do this before mounting the filter on the telescope. Also, since it is a film, one has to be careful handling and storing it to prevent scratches, holes, and getting foreign material on it.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 28, 2017Perfect for binoculars
Pros: Cons: Comments:I used two of these with two filter step up rings to create a pair of solar filters for binoculars, plus two filter cases for them to store in. Cheap and effective solution to checking on the Sun for sunspots or sharing an eclipse experience with a small group.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 6, 2017Solar Fun
Pros: Cons: Comments:I have an 80mm short tube refractor. It has the removable cover on the lens cap, about 2" wide. I bought this film and attached it to the inside of the lens cap. Now, when I am in the mood to look at the Sun, I just mount this scope on my Nexstar mount and look at the Sun. Very easy to apply.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 23, 2017BAADER AstroSolar Safety Film
Pros: Cons: Comments:Although tricky to handle because it is so thin, I am very happy with the quality. I was REALLY happy with the super-fast delivery time. Thanks!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 20, 2017Perfect
Pros: Cons: Comments:My film arrived promptly in perfect condition. I couldn't be more pleased with the camera filter I made. I eagerly await the forthcoming total solar eclipse!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 8, 2017Baader AstroSolar Visual Solar Filter Film (ND 5) - 4" (101mm) Sq
Pros: Cons: Comments:Excellent product-I was able to use this piece to make a solar filter for my camera lens-and it works perfectly. I appreciate how they offer solar filter film in different sizes like this-you can order just what you need and don't have to worry about cutting the film yourself.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 1, 2017Good match
Pros: Cons: Comments:The "natural" light of Baader is personal preference I suppose but in my case this is needed to get the benefit out of using Baader Solar Continuum eyepiece filter in making things "pop." Other colored widebands are unsatisfactory in my experience when matched with the Baader eyepiece filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 30, 2017Solar FIlter FIlm
Pros: Cons: Comments:I've previously used this film to make a solar filter for use with a telephoto lens, permitting photographing the Sun with sunspots. The recent purchase has been used to make a pair of solar filters for my large binoculars, which I'll use for eclipse viewing.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 27, 2017Baader AstroSolar Film
Pros: Cons: Comments:I ordered a large amount of the solar film to make filters for all of my optics. I started out with my 8" Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain. Have to say, when i opened the roll and saw the pure quality of the film, I was pretty impressed. Although I immediately intimidated by how thin it was, i quickly learned how durable this stuff was. I found a set of directions online that were very simple to read and accurate. Gave the film a try, and voila, worked flawlessly. Very crisp pictures. Kind of odd seeing the sun so white, but definitely full of detail. I would definitely recommend the product. As for Agenda Astro, no complaints. Arrived when expected, packages well, and great value. Best around. Thanks
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 20, 2017Baader Astrosolar Film success
Pros: Cons: Comments:Following the instructions regarding mounting the film, I fabricated a simple holder that necks my 115mm f7 refractor down to 82mm out of craft materials and now I have a 1st class white light solar filter that works great and cost @ $25. Besides, it was fun to make.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 16, 2017Baader Solar Film
Pros: Cons: Comments:I have photographed the Sun through the Baader solar film before and still recommend it.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Received the film quickly from AgenaAstro. It is easy to work with and made my filter in no time at all.
A great product from a great company, ThanksThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 10, 2017Baader solar filter film
Pros: Cons: Comments:Agena had a variety of product in stock and I easily found the right product for me. Ordering was straightforward, the price was right. Couldn't ask for more. Satisfied customer and one who will be returning.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 3, 2017Baader film
Pros: Cons: Comments:Have looked through both the glass filters and Baader film filters and for the money it is well worth it. Just treat it gently so it lasts for you.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 26, 2017Great for 2017 total solar eclipse in United States!
Pros: Cons: Comments:I captured the last one with a Nikon film camera and a special photographic piece of large black film for the little newspaper Inwas working for in Colby, Kansas. I was in my 20s. Now, at 61, I'll be doing it again at 61 with my digital Nikon camera for the small paper I work for in Gulfport, Florida. I'm making my own filter with an oatmeal box top for my 500mm camera lens (in addition, I'm also using a 2x doubler) and three pair of viewing glasses out of plastic safety glasses -- the kind used with power tools -- so two friends can join me on August 21, 2017. Here's hoping for clear skies! Thank you for your product as I no longer have access to a process film camera for a printing press in the digital age. That's the type of sheet film I used before developed to full photographic black.

Mar 25, 2017Baader AstroSolar Filter
Pros: Cons: Comments:I've been using Baader Planetarium's AstroSolar for several years now. I've used it for general solar observations, imaging of sunspot groups, eclipses, the transit of Venus in 2012 and the transit of Mercury in 2016. For white light solar astronomy, this stuff absolutely works. Images are sharp and detailed. The film itself is durable and will last a long time with proper care. If you are willing to spend the time to build your own filter cell, you can have an excellent front objective filter for the fraction of the cost of a manufactured unit. Building your own can offer great versatility. Use it on telescopes, finderscopes, spotting scopes, binoculars or even for a hand held viewer.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 19, 2017Baader astro film
Pros: Cons: Comments:Perfect product. Within minutes of arrival I constructed a hand held sun gazing device from a tissue box. I looked t the sun, put it over my camera and took pics, then looked through it with small binoculars. Durable, clear film.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 1, 2017My Camera is Now Ready for the Eclipse
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased the Baader film to make a solar filter for my camera. The film came in a size almost perfect for the camera and it was easy to handle and cut to shape. I tested it and works perfectly.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 17, 2017Good deal
Pros: Cons: Comments:There was enough material to make a solar filter for my 5" mak and the 6x30 finder scope. It has made solar viewing with my mak a breeze. It should work perfectly for viewing a solar eclipse.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 9, 2017Material to build affordable eclipse viewing filters
Pros: Cons: Comments:I bought these well in advance for the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse, as every filter source was back-ordered until a month too late for the 2012 Venus transit and the annular eclipse a month earlier.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
You must follow the instructions for best results, and to avoid damage to the filter film. Nice true color filtering of the sun (or any other extremely bright source). Easy to set up and build a filter cell for your telescope, binoculars, and other optics for solar observation.
If you plan to attend the eclipse this year, you should order filters and optics NOW so you have plenty of time to thoroughly test your equipment. This stuff is economical enough you can get spare sheets, because there will be someone you are likely to encounter at the last minute who was unprepared.
These also work well as a high intensity LED inspection tool to spot hot and cold LEDs in a high output lamp. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 2, 2016On a clear day
Pros:Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Using the hood of the camera lens as a guide, I cut two pieces of 140LB matte paper into a 3/4 inch 'doughnut,' sandwiched the film between them, and taped it to the lens hood to make a disposable solar filter for photographing the eclipse.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 28, 2016Good inexpensive filter
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:It's a great filter for the price, gives clear white light image of the sun. I use it with a #8 light yellow color filter to get a final yellowish view of the sun. Making your own front end cover for your telescope with the filter is fun and very inexpensive.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 23, 2015Inexpensive path to solar observation
Pros: Cons: Comments:Baader Planetarium has the reputation for making the best pre-objective solar film. Kudos to Agena Astro for making many different sizes of this excellent film available for the DIY.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 17, 2014Baader Film ND 5
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight

Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 5, 2014Great product
Pros:Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Great product. With the Solar film I was able to make my own Solar filter for a fraction of the cost of a commercially made one.

Jun 9, 2014Great product, great price
Pros:Good Instructions
Cons: Comments:I was able to construct a safe solar filter that fits both my 5" and 80mm refractors. Image quality is great. Thanks to Agena Astroproducts for excellent instructions and service.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 6, 2014Best of white light solar observing
Pros:Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Accurate,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Compact
Cons:Need to make the cell
Comments:At first I bought it for Venus transit of 2012. Beside transits, it's a solution for sunspot observing and non-total solar eclipses.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
It is a thin film, and you make a filter cell. Instructions included, easy with some cardboard and tape. Film looks fragile but it's sturdy unless used harshly. Also, it's very quality made, gives crisp and white color sun images.
I use it on my 60mm refractor, 8" dob (off-axis), camera, binoculars for sunspot observing and as solar eclipse glasses. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 11, 2013Great solar film
Pros:Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:The Baader solar film I ordered is for my Celestron C90 Mak, which serves as a grab and go scope. The film is 4"x4" and came with a simple instruction. I ordered it three days ago, and there it was in may mail box, a bit of surprise by Agena's speedy shipping process. The film is very light weight, and took me extra caution/effort in handling it. I did successfully mount it in the cardboard film holder I built. The result is satisfying especially when I observed the sun spots in the C90 for the first time using this film. Overall, it is a great product.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 11, 2013Baader Film
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Easy to install, slightly delicate....company had great shipping - I will do business with them again, and overall good value for the money

Jul 27, 2013Great performance at low cost
Pros:Great images,Tough And Durable,Lightweight,Easy to mount
Cons: Comments:I bought this product to use for solar observing with my refractor telescope. It was easy to mount in a cell for use on my scope using the directions supplied. The solar images through the film are sharp and detailed. It works beautifully for a very reasonable price.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 30, 2013Much better than paying $80+ for pre-fab
Pros: Cons: Comments:This film worked great along with included instructions to make my own solar filter. I'm not very handy but was still pretty easy to make the filter for my 6 inch SCT.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 9, 2012Great for DIY filter
Pros:Lightweight,Inexpensive
Cons:None
Comments:I used this film for the Venus transit and solar viewing. Product works just as it is supposed to. A little skill and care is needed when making a filter. I'm very satisfied with this product and it is well worth the money.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 30, 2012Excellent for eclipse/transit viewing.
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons:Fragile
Comments:I bought a 6" square to make a filter for my Edmund Astroscan. A bit of work making a cardboard frame for the film and I had it ready for the Venus transit. Views through the film are as good as those through the glass filter I have for my 10" dob, and making one for my Astroscan allowed me to do some Venus Transit outreach in the parking lot of my office. The light weight makes it easier to use on a small scope than a glass filter would be.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 28, 2012AstroSolar film - easy to use
Pros:Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:The solar film works great for my 90mm Refractor. Seeing the sun and the sunspot detail expands my astronomical viewing capabilities without breaking the budget. It is a great way to get into solar viewing. Making the filter using the film was easy and inexpensive to do.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 14, 2012Baader Solar Filter Film
Pros:High quality
Cons: Comments:Never used a film filter before, and was skeptical of quality. I am more than impressed with the high resolution I get visually and in photos using this filter. Comes with excellent instructions and precautions on handling and building your own custom sized filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 13, 2012Inexpensive AND Excellent Performance
Pros:Inexpensive,Detailed views,Get to make the cell
Cons:Need to make the cell
Comments:I cannot think of another way to get the same quality in a solar filter for anything close to the price. It comes with instructions for making your own cell, which is not difficult, and getting it in a sheet allows you to customize it to your own scope. I've made filters now for three scopes, from 72mm to five inches. I used them to view and take fantastic images of the recent Transit of Venus, as well as shots of some of the huge sunspots that have been crossing the sun.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 3, 2012Low cost, good results--great for DIY!
Pros: Cons:Difficult to Use
Comments:This is not just a buy it and use it type of product--the film itself is rather delicate and not too useful by itself. However, compared to what a glass solar filter would cost, there's no contest. If you're up for a little do-it-yourself challenge, this is well worth it. I bought this just in time for the Venus transit and it worked quite well.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I can't attest to its optical quality as my scope was out of collimation and the seeing was terrible that day, however it seemed perfectly fine to me. I would highly recommend this, especially given the price of the smaller sheets (solar observing doesn't exactly require aperture anyway ;)This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 3, 2012Good product
Pros:Easy to Use,Lightweight,Accurate
Cons: Comments:If economy is your aim, this is a good product. As I view the sun infrequently there was no need to buy an expensive filter. With a little heavy weight poster board and some glue and the Baader solar filter I fabricated my own solar filter for my 120mm refractor in short order. The filter provides clear images of sunspots in a natural white light. One does need to use proper precaution when handling so as not to damage the filter.

Jul 1, 2012Nice
Pros: Cons: Comments:Very great product, shows sunspot details really nicely. My friend has an Orion glass filter for his scope and by far this asto film produces a much higher contrast image with more detail.

Jul 1, 2012Got What I Needed
Pros:Accurate
Cons: Comments:I almost waited to late to get the Baader Solar Film for the transit of Venus. Fortunately, Agena had a sheet that met my needs and I got it time to build the filter. I really didn't want to wait 115 years to see thie so I'm glad Agena was able to come through.

Jul 1, 2012Filters provide a very scrisp image
Pros:Accurate,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:Bought filter material for my 4" refractor and my 8" reflector. Best white light image I've seen. Very sharp. Much better than the glass filter I previously used.

Jul 1, 2012Significant upgrade to old Solar Skreen
Pros:Lightweight,Easy to Use,Accurate
Cons: Comments:Simple conversion into a filter for my classic celestron c90 using the cap from a large plastic jar and some electrical tape. Much more detail and natural color compared with the 2 layer Solar Skreen mylar filter I've ben using since the 80s. Got it fitted just in time for the Venus transit!

Jun 30, 2012Quality film for making a solar filter
Pros:Resolution
Cons: Comments:Could not find my solar filter a week before the recent solar eclipes. I was able to get the Baader Film shipped to me in time to make a solar filter for my 3.5 inch telescope and another for a camera lens (with some additional film left over).
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I fould it relitvely easy to make the filters using cardbord and hot melt glue.
The quality of pictures I was able to make with the filter was excelent. In fact, I don't think I will ever buy a pre-made filter again, especially considering the price. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 30, 2012Appeared to be everything I expected
Pros: Cons: Comments:The filter worked great in photographing the sun during the Venus transit. Saved a lot of money by buying the basic material and mounting it myself, but of course the trade off was the time needed to mount the filter.

Jun 30, 2012Baader AstroSolar Film and 72 mm UV fltr
Pros:Easy to Use,Sharp Image,Agena's came packed well,Easy to cut,Agena sells many sizes,Lightweight,Compact
Cons:Easy to smudge
Comments:I bought this for the transit of Venus. One of the members of our club had the idea of sandwiching the filter between two cheap UV filters for use with a Canon EOS camera. I bought a 500mm mirror/lens with a 2x doubler and attached this between two 72mm filters and got great pics of the sun. One of the thing I like about Agena is that they sold many different sizes of sheets so I could choose to get just what I needed and not have much waste.

Jun 29, 2012Good stuff
Pros:Quality,Affordable
Cons:Fragile,ND5 can be a little dark,DIY
Comments:Agena had this film when everyone else had sold out just a few weeks before the Annular eclipse of 5/20/12 and Venus transit of 6/5/12. From one 8" square which was sized a little generously, I was able to make a 3.25", two 2.75", one 60mm and a pair of 30mm circular filters using the instructions included, for all of my scopes and binoculars. The views provided were much better than anything I'd seen through Mylar and gave me very good photos with my DSLR and Celestron 8. There were no pinholes or streaks in the material I received, but the surface is delicate. For long focal lengths, it may be a little dark for fast shutter speeds. On the whole I am very happy to have gotten this when I did and looking forward to more solar observing.
