Celestron 7x50 Right-Angle Finder Scope
Pros:Bright image, wide field of view, solid focuser.
Cons:None
Comments:I purchased Celestron’s 7x50 Right-Angle Finder Scope to use with a 10.1” f/4.5 Dobsonian. The scope has a black enamel finish to match the Celestron scopes produced in the late 1980s (which was when I bought it).
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Unlike many finders that have either no means of focusing or a cheap little screw-type helical focuser, Celestron’s finder has a nice mechanism whereby twisting the rubber-covered back end of the tube smoothly moves a focusing drawtube in or out. The back end employs a basic .965” prism diagonal with a removable Kellner crosshair eyepiece.
The 50mm fully coated achromatic objective gathers a lot of light, easily allowing many faint DSOs to be viewed in the crosshairs. Because of the bright image and wide field, this finder gave more pleasing images of extended objects like The Coathanger, Col399 or The Double Cluster than did the narrower F.O.V. of my Dobsonian.
In conclusion, Celestron’s 7x50 Right-Angle finderscope really makes pointing a telescope easy and has some features that give it an advantage over many other finders.Sort by
