Celestron Super C8
Pros:Extremely well made, excellent optics, accurate and quiet Byers drive
Cons:Unfortunately no longer made to this high quality
Comments:I love Classic telescopes so when the opportunity to pick up this rare orange tube Classic Super C8 I could not resist. The telescope is in immaculate condition. It has the Byers drive system and is so cool because there is a window in the drive base that you can see the gears when the scope is tracking via a back-lit dim orange light!! This scope also came with a JMI mototrak V with dec and focus motors. The scope looks like it has been extremely well taken care of. The original accessories included a made in Japan 7mm ortho, 26mm Silvertop eyepiece and prism diagonal. Compared to my two large CATS, this one is so light to just carry outside.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
First light was last week. I heard that Celestron at the time (1984) provided a certificate for optical quality on these scopes and std High transmission coatings with starbrite a new option!! The coatings and the mirror look flawless, the 8x50mm RA helical focusing finder is sharp and comfortable, even the objective lens has 3 foil spacers!! Ok turned the scope on and it was so quiet did not even hear a thing. It tracked flawlessly thru the mototrak V drive corrector. Being seated I had some unbelievable crisp images of Jupiter!! I felt in control with every function of the scope in my hand controller of the JMI corrector. Dec , RA, and focusing all easily controlled. I was taken aback by the image quality of this CAT. I am very fortunate to now own 3 Celestron CATS from yesteryear all made in the USA, all three with extremely high quality optics. If you ever get a chance to pick up a Super C8...go for itSort by
