Celestron Ultima 18mm
Pros:Excellent planetary views, not to pricey, inside very well blackened.
Cons:Difficult to find on the used market.
Comments:This is a very impressive eyepiece. The views in my 8 inch f/10 SCT were excellent. The contrast was excellent with a slight amount of field curvature, but sharp to the field stop. I saw very little lateral color at all, and this eyepiece barlows very well. In my Orion Shorty Plus the images were crystal sharp. I did notice some very slight vignetting near the last 5% or so but it was not at all bothersome. The stats are: Cost new $80, used at around $45 to $55 dollars when you can find it.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
These Ultima eyepieces are some of the best Celestron makes and it difficult to find on the used market. FOV is 50 degrees and the eye relief is around 10mm, which is not too bad for this 18mm. Also there are 5 glass elements and that is one more than a standard plossl. I highly recommend this eyepiece. All glass is multi-coated.Sort by
