Manufacturer Description

Using advanced computer design, combinations of low dispersion and high refractive index optical glasses, and durable multilayer deposition coatings, Explore Scientific 82° Series extreme wide field eyepieces are optimized to produce high contrast, high resolution, and superior flat field characteristics. The visual effect of these eyepieces with their long eye-relief and their 82° apparent field is truly a full-immersion experience. Your eye is relaxed, allowing you to easily use the "averted vision" technique to study faint details across a huge field-of-view.

Each eyepiece is meticulously assembled into precision machined metal lens barrels that maintain the perfect alignment of the optical train for years of rugged use in the field. The 82° Series eyepieces come with a twist-up rubber eye-guard that raise to the desired height for the comfort of the observer, and as experienced astronomers know, eye comfort is critical when trying to observe at the visual limits of the telescope.

To keep internal reflections to a minimum, all internal surfaces of the eyepiece barrel are flat black, as well as the edges of the lenses themselves to minimize the scattering of light within the lenses themselves.

Explore Scientific's eyepieces are backed with their exclusive Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty. Limited Warranty is one year, which converts to the Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty when product is registered within 60 days of purchase. We think that you will find Explore Scientific eyepieces rank among the finest obtainable and represent an outstanding value.

      5.0 Great immersive viewing

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I'm no expert but this eyepiece gives a sharp and immersive view far superior to 62* plossl it replaces on my 250mm dobsonian. Jupiter super clear, you're floating in the stars for deep space objects. I am very happy I bought this eyepiece. Agena customer service also excellent.

      5.0 Great size and performance

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I find that EP's with huge apparent field are too wildly, too heavy, and just too hard to work with. The range from 62 to 72(ish) I think is the sweet spot for apparent field EP's. This 82 deg EP has excellent performance at this focal length and price point. Really you can't beat it! I've only used it once "in the field" with my new 150mm Mak-Cas and I was VERY surprised at the performance. The views were well worth it. I will certainly get some more ES EP's in this series. Excellent return on investment.

      4.0 Pretty Good

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Looks good, works good, only negative is can't see whole field without a lot of head movement. Keep your eye centered and can see about 70 degrees. Works good in f/5 scopes, stars start to bloat right at outer edge.

      5.0 Optical excellence and value!

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Comments:

Very crisp visual images with deep dark backgrounds in my ES AR152. For a wide-angle EP I have not noticed any troubling distortion near field edge, but I can not say I've used it enough to be conclusive. Let me put it this way: this purchase has made me even more frustrated at the poor weather we've been having, because it's a very enjoyable experience when using it. This line of ES EPs is worth your budget!

      Pros:

      Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Accurate,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Compact

      Cons:

      Comments:

This is the best yeipiece I have ever seen. In my 150 Newtonian it gives sharp and contrast views of all objects: planets and deep sky. Strong construction and high quality optics. I recommend it!

      5.0 Unbelievable value

      Pros:

      Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate

      Cons:

      Comments:

ES eyepieces are the best value in astronomy. I have all of the 82* 1-1/4 " oculars. The 6.7mm and 11mm are the best of the series in my opinion. They are VERY well corrected and have comfortable eye relief although not enough to use with glasses.

      5.0 High Power, wide views.

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Wide View,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

When I need to get up close in both the 18" Obsession and the C11 this eyepiece does the job. The wide field of view helps keep the object in view and still see some of the surroundings.

Between the 11mm, the 6.7mm and a 2x barlow I can get about any magnification I need with a very clear and sharp view (seeing permitting).

Big upgrade from my previous high quality zoom, just because of the extra width in the angle of view.

5.0 Big Window, High Mag Combo Platter

      Pros:

      Accurate,Perfect Fit And Finish,Compact,Solid And Smooth,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

This is the 6th Explore Scientific product I have purchased (their AR-102 refractor and Twilight I mount among them). Every product is notable for its absolute precision, both in its construction and its performance. Among the best dollar value offered by any vendor.

The ES 11mm/82-degree EP is, in a word, superb. Fit and finish are exemplary, mechanical operation and optics both first-rate. And SOLID. This thing has the heft and feel of a small grenade in your hand.

Views via both my SV-80ED, AR-102 and Celestron 102 GT refractors, as well as my 6" StarBlast dob are just outstanding. A very versatile, delightful mid-to-high power ocular. Scalpel-sharp images, remarkable contrast and detail, and all with wide expansive views courtesy of the 82-degree APOV. I like it so much that I just ordered its kin, the ES 24mm68 degree.

These two ES gems are going to become my most used EPs.

      Highly recommended.

      5.0 My most used EP

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

At 11mm, this EP is in the focal length range used very frequently with fast Dobs. For sure it gets used the most by me. There is a significant increase in light transmission and level of definition compared to EPs costing not much less, making this EP an excellent value. This is a keeper!

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Lightweight

      Cons:

      Comments:

This is an excellent eyepiece and very sharp to the edge in my 5.3 scope. The 82 degree shows me the whole moon at x145. Excellent contrast and globulars are amazing. I couldnt rate it high enough and have added more E.S 82'S to my collection.
