Explore Scientific 40 mm Eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:First Off, buy from Agena! Customer Service is great and no other company ships faster then they do. The eyepiece Came well packaged and with no dirt or dust. Views are quite good: expansive and clear. It works extremely well in my 8 inch SCT but I Haven’t had a chance to try in my larger dobsonian. I suspect it will be quite good though.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 21, 2018My 40mm ES 62 degree eye piece
Pros: Cons: Comments:So I needed a wider angle ep for my 8" SCT because I wasn't always on target using my goto. My typical ep is a TV 27 panoptic and I always seem to be just out of view. So I felt if I had a wider angle it would at least get me in range. Now, most of my ep's are televue and for obvious reasons. I like clarity rather than large blurry images. It took me Weeks to decide if it was worth it to give up that clarity because the ES 40 mm was 1/3 the price of its TV competitor. Weight was another factor and I did not want to exceed the 25 oz of my TV 17 mm. ES also had a 68 deg for a little more money. But I did the math and the 40mm 62 deg had a reasonable weight, a good fov that I was looking and a real good price as I only planned on using it to help me correct my SCT bugs.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
As it turned out, the ep was comfortable to handle, delivered a black sky where the dso's I was looking for were clear and bright. I use the ep on several occasions and instead of being a cheap tool for a potential fix, it has become my work horse in both my scopes. It was well worth the gamble. It's a little light around the edges - sometimes. But, I don't look for that so it doesn't bother me. It gave me an extra half inch around the edge (wider than my 27mm 68deg) which is what I wanted and st a great price. The eye relief is a little uncomfortable. I think because it's so wide my eye falls right into the rubber cup. I think I just have to get used to that. I'll be looking at other ES ep's in the future.
And of course Agena's customer service and expedient shipping is second to none. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
