Manufacturer Description

Color filters can be very useful for enhancing your views of the Moon and the planets. Depending on the atmospheric conditions, the telescope being used, the observer's experience, and the planet being observed or photographed, the advantages of color filters can be anywhere from subtle to dramatic. The right filter can make all the difference between seeing several small craters in the floor of Clavius on the Moon or not; seeing five or six swirls in Jupiter's belts or not; or seeing the inner Crepe Ring of Saturn or not.

GSO's 1.25" color/planetary filters are manufactured from the purest optical glass and are dyed-in-the-mass (not simply "color coated") for premium performance. They thread into the barrels of virtually any 1.25" telescope eyepiece. Each filter cell has a male and female 1.25" filter thread (M28.5x0.6) on opposite sides, so multiple filters can be stacked to achieve selective filtration of the visual color spectrum. The clear aperture is 25.6mm and each filter comes in a protective plastic storage case. Made in Taiwan.

The #11 Yellow-Green Filter color contrasts well with the red and blue characteristics of surface features on Jupiter and, to some degree, Saturn. It darkens the Maria visible on Mars and accentuates the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings. It also improves visual detail on Uranus and Neptune slightly, again in telescopes with 10" or more of aperture.

5.0 Great filter at a great price...

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

GSO has done it again... this 1.25 #11 yellow/greeen color/planetary filter works great... and at great price too! Even though I'm a beginner... I will be buying from them again... that's for sure! I'm sure that there are more expensive filters out there... but where I'm coming from... this works for me!

      5.0 Magical filter!

      Pros:

      Great Ca Reduction

      Cons:

      Comments:

Forget expensive fringe killers. If you own a fast Achro refractor, this is the best filter to use on bright objects. Great for splitting close bright double stars at high power, which is the only time that CA is problematic for me. What a value!

      5.0 Great Filter for Achromats

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

This filter is high quality construction with excellent optical properties. I bought this filter mainly for use of suppression of false color in my grab & go 70mm f5.7 short tube refractor and it works superbly. In fact it works well in all my telescopes including an F9.4 127mm achromat, a 90mm F8.8 achro, and my 8 inch SCT. The filter has excellent transmission qualities and suppresses Chromatic aberration in a dramatic way with achromats and greatly improves resolution and contrast. It is optimised for the bandwidth where the human eye is most sensitive (yellow green), the same band achromats are best corrected. As a moon filter the improvement is stunning. The sharpness and contrast are very much improved and obvious. On Jupiter the equatorial belts are sharply delineated in bold contrast, far better than any filter I have used. It is an economic alternative to more expensive filters if you don't mind the yellow/green coloration. This filter is a real winner and a lot of bang for the buck..

      5.0 Excellent filter for achromats

      Pros:

      Accurate,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

This is a very well made filter. The light transmission is high and works great on short tube achromats to suppress chromatic aberration without dimming the image. The wavelength of this filter matches the best correction band of visual achromats. The increase in sharpness and contrast, particularly on the moon and Jupiter is very impressive. A very high bang for the buck.
