Manufacturer Description
Color filters can be very useful for enhancing your views of the Moon and the planets. Depending on the atmospheric conditions, the telescope being used, the observer's experience, and the planet being observed or photographed, the advantages of color filters can be anywhere from subtle to dramatic. The right filter can make all the difference between seeing several small craters in the floor of Clavius on the Moon or not; seeing five or six swirls in Jupiter's belts or not; or seeing the inner Crepe Ring of Saturn or not.
GSO's 1.25" color/planetary filters are manufactured from the purest optical glass and are dyed-in-the-mass (not simply "color coated") for premium performance. They thread into the barrels of virtually any 1.25" telescope eyepiece. Each filter cell has a male and female 1.25" filter thread (M28.5x0.6) on opposite sides, so multiple filters can be stacked to achieve selective filtration of the visual color spectrum. The clear aperture is 25.6mm and each filter comes in a protective plastic storage case. Made in Taiwan.
The #56 Green Filter is excellent for the observation of Martian polar ice caps and for the dust storms on the planet's surface, strongly increasing their contrast. It also brings out the red and blue regions such as the Great Red Spot on Jupiter in contrast to the lighter portions. It is useful for observing the low-contrast hues of blue and red in the Jovian atmosphere. The filter enhances Saturn's cloud belts and polar regions and increases contrast of cloud patterns on Venus. This filter is good for lunar observing as well. The filter may not yield good results on small telescopes.

Mar 12, 2018Another Winner by GSO
Pros: Cons: Comments:Another perfect color-filter by GSO and it finished-up my Wratten Color Planetary - Filter series. And Agena's fast service had it in my mailbox before I knew it! The $13.00 price - including shipping - made this the perfect transaction.

Jun 2, 2017GSO bargain high quality filters
Pros: Cons: Comments:I've been using color filters for planetary viewing for more than 45 years. Usually I have paid at least 3 times the price of these. I thought I would try one and was surprised at the workmanship, materials and optical quality. I have no color filters in my arsenal that are any better than these. I also like how they thread into all of my eyepieces smoothly and without exception. I definitely cannot say that for a number of other well known astronomical filter brands. Last night this one and the 80A blue GSO filter helped locate and view the Red Spot on Jupiter with a small Tele Vue refractor. I plan on buying more of these. By the way, the quick service and shipping by Agena is the best.

Mar 25, 2010GSO Green Planetary Filter
Pros:Casual/ Recreational
Cons:Casual/ Recreational
Comments:This filter works well to discern the polar caps on Mars. I am looking forward to gauging its performance on jupiter. For Mars, I still prefer the light blue. It's color is not as imposing, but brings out nice detail.
