Manufacturer Description
Color filters can be very useful for enhancing your views of the Moon and the planets. Depending on the atmospheric conditions, the telescope being used, the observer's experience, and the planet being observed or photographed, the advantages of color filters can be anywhere from subtle to dramatic. The right filter can make all the difference between seeing several small craters in the floor of Clavius on the Moon or not; seeing five or six swirls in Jupiter's belts or not; or seeing the inner Crepe Ring of Saturn or not.
GSO's 1.25" color/planetary filters are manufactured from the purest optical glass and are dyed-in-the-mass (not simply "color coated") for premium performance. They thread into the barrels of virtually any 1.25" telescope eyepiece. Each filter cell has a male and female 1.25" filter thread (M28.5x0.6) on opposite sides, so multiple filters can be stacked to achieve selective filtration of the visual color spectrum. The clear aperture is 25.6mm and each filter comes in a protective plastic storage case. Made in Taiwan.
The # 8 Light Yellow Filter enhances detail of red and orange-colored phenomena in the belts of Jupiter. It increases contrast of the blue-colored Maria on Mars by reducing scattered light from these areas, while allowing passage of more green light thus highlighting yellow dust clouds as well. It provides improved resolution of detail on Uranus and Neptune in large telescopes (over 10"). The light yellow filter is popularly used to enhance lunar features, particularly in small telescopes (below 8"). In comets, it brings out highlights in yellowish dust tails and enhances the coma.

Sep 25, 2018Exactly What Was Needed
Pros: Cons: Comments:My older ProOptics #8 Lt. Yellow Filter developed spots & streaks. It was cheap & probably dyed-in-vat. This filter by GSO is uniform edge-to-edge, no variation regardless of angle you view through it. This bespeaks it's high-quality.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
At the price - any other color-planetary filter I find needing replacement will be GSO. As a "Filter-Nut" with an extensive collection - I highly recommend these! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 1, 2017Corrects chromatic aberration on refractor
Pros: Cons: Comments:I got this #8 filter to reduce the slight "purple haze" found around bright objects with my achromatic refractor (100 mm/f10). Works great, the violet flaring is gone and I can focus more sharply. It doesn't impart a yellowish tint on the Moon or other objects and there's no appreciable dimming. I am leaving it screwed into the diagonal all the time. Much more cost effective than the expensive CA filters for my particular scope (those with more serious CA may need the more expensive filters).

Jan 28, 2016Good filter
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:I use this filter mainly for solar viewing along with a custom fitted Baader Astrosolar film in front of my reflector, it gives the sun a yellowish color that seems more "natural" than the white image the Baader filter delivers, besides, the yellow filter seems to pop out sunspots compared to the Baader filter alone.

Feb 10, 2013GSO, Good Quality At Reasonable Price
Pros:Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Great filter for extra increased contrast on black and white video cameras. GSO provides quality filters at a fraction of the price.
