Product Info
Manufacturer Description
Neutral density filters are excellent filters to reduce the overall brightness of an image to cut down glare while viewing bright astronomical objects through a telescope. They are useful for splitting binary systems, comfortably observing the moon, or stacking with other planetary filters. ND filters retain true color balance of the objects being observed since all wavelengths are transmitted uniformly over the entire spectrum.
This ND96 neutral density filter allows 50% of the visible light to pass through. It has a standard 1.25" male filter thread (M28.5x0.6) so it can be screwed on to virtually any astronomy eyepiece or accessory that has 1.25" filter threads. Also features a standard 1.25" female filter thread on the other side, so it can be stacked with additional filters. Comes in a protective plastic storage box. Made in Taiwan.

Dec 4, 2017GOOD SOLID FILTER

Jan 21, 2017Another fine filter from GSO
Pros: Cons: Comments:I've bought several of the GSO filters from Agena, and they all seem to work very well. I use this filter with my #80 GSO blue filter and both filters work great when observing the moon. I'm just a beginner in astronomy... but these filters seem to help me in my observations...

Dec 29, 2016Good quality at a good price
Pros: Cons: Comments:This filter is of much better quality than the one that I bought before. The filter is of neutral color and mounted on a metal rim. I used it on my 8" f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain at 100x to look at a half moon and was amazed at the details that I could see. However, when looking at the full moon, I still found it a little too bright even with the filter installed.

Feb 8, 2014Now I have a complete set!
Pros:Lightweight,Accurate,Easy to Use,Compact,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:Now I have a complete set of ND Filters. I got the GSO 25% and 50% ND Filters to add to my 13% ND Filter to make a complete set of ND Filters. These will come in handy when I am observing the Moon.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I like the quality and price of the GSO ND Filters! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 27, 2013Now I have two
Pros: Cons: Comments:The quality of these GSO filters versus the price makes them an outstanding value. Now I have the 25% and 50% transmission versions, which are not that widely available elsewhere. The typical 13% transmission version is too much for my 5" refractor.

Apr 30, 2010Glad I Got It
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Compact
Cons: Comments:If you've ever looked at the full moon with a telescope using low power, you don't need a review on lunar filters to tell you that doing so will leave you nearly blind in that eye for a while.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I ordered both the 25% and 13% light transmission filters and am glad I did. Sometimes one works best, sometimes the other. They are compact, sturdy, and of very good quality.
Having one now, I don't see how I ever got along w/o it. If you don't already have one, I definitely recommend getting it. It makes all the difference in comfortable viewing.
If you're going to get only one filter, I would go with 13% light transmission. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 11, 2010Excellent ND Filter at a great price
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate,Compact,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:Excellent ND Filter for all moon phases at 25%. Can also be used for Saturn & Jupiter to cut slight glare in large scopes for more detail
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Nov 8, 2009A quality filter.
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Accurate,Quality Lenses
Cons:None
Comments:I wanted a good moon filter period. GSO delivers with this very high quality product. The glass is flawless, the threading is superb, and the views of the moon are so much better.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
When I first started getting into astronomy I didn't think a moon filter was anything I'd be needing...but it didn't take too many viewing sessions to realize just how wrong I was. The improvement you will see when using this filter when viewing the moon is pleasing to say the least. Buy with confidence from Agena, they will serve you well. :)This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 3, 2009Cool "shades" for your eyepieces..
Pros:Well made filter, stackable, cheap
Cons:none
Comments:I own the 13% version of this filter, using it with my Xt8 Dob. I can gather quite a bit of light with that scope and when I'm in the mood to do some lunar scoping a filter like this is a must.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
GSO has some quality stuff folks, and this filter works like a charm. The threading is well made and I had no problem using this with any of my lenses. You can also stack this filter with others and it worked great. I like to blend colors together with it sometimes.
Oh, and its VERY affordable. I plan to get the others in this set as well. Recommended!twinkle New Member

May 26, 2009Great for viewing the moon
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate
Cons:None
Comments:I bought two 25% filters to use on my binocular telescope for viewing the moon. They are like a pair of sunglasses and help make observing the moon more enjoyable when it's more than 1st quarter. They reduce glare and chromatic aberration without interfering with detail. I'm happy to have them. They are very affordable and the vendor is a great communicator.

May 26, 2009Nice Accessory for Lunar Observing
Pros:Inexpensive,Nice images
Cons: Comments:For years I have used a variable polarizing filter for lunar observing. While it has the advantage of being able to continuously change the transmittance, the images often seemed a little soft to me. After reading that fixed transmittance, neutral density filters provide better image quality, I ordered the GSO 13% transmittance filter from Agena and I am highly satisfied with it. There is a definite improvement in image sharpness over the variable polarizer - to the point that the variable unit has now been totally replaced by the new filter. I now plan to purchase the 25% transmittance filter to complement the 13% unit that has worked so well for me. Very inexpensive also. Highly recommended.

May 22, 2009GSO Neutral Density Filters - 1.25"
Pros:Work great
Cons:None
Comments:I don't own the 50% filter, but I own the 25% & 13%. Both work great on the planets and bright stars! Really a must have with your filter collection!! Without these two filters you just can't get the best views!! I really can't see what the 50% would be good for but I will most likely buy it anyway since I own the other two! :-)
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
